March 2011: Milla Jovovich, star of the original series, reveals in a red carpet interview that she won’t be returning for the Resi reboot, and she has no idea who might replace her.
The response is mixed but upbeat – Jovovich did a solid job of carrying the franchise, but Alice was clumsily grafted into the Resident Evil mythos and the geek hivemind isn’t sorry to see her go.
In a dark corner of the Sony executive offices, men in suits begin to sweat gently while thinking about who to put on the next Resident Evil poster.

See how they did it with the games Res Evil 4 and 5, theres no rampaging horde just a slow steady build up of menace, oh and only having 2 weapons and sparse ammo will ramp up the tension.

It'd have been nice to mention that this entire article is fake. I really got my hopes up thinking for once a studio was doing a Reboot that was actually wanted. Sad times.

Chris Evans for Chris Redfield, Gemma Arterton for Claire (if they use her), Chris Smith wouldn't be a bad choice but maybe Neil Marshall could get it and himself back on track with this? I'm still intrigued to think what he might have done with Predators. Having said that, a couple of the recent films that I've seen that got really intense with very little shown, which I think would be good for the first half of Resi, were 'F' and Salvage, both Brit directors who deserve a shot at something like this.

I basically love Black Death, which is why I went Smith. Do like Chris Evans, but wanted someone more character-y to stop it going the way of the existing series.
Chaos - sorry, fella :) These are a regular thing on the site, for a bit of fun. Thus all the dates being in the future...

NO REBOOT! The resident evil fims are fantastic! I love them! Anderson did the right thing and kept the story away from the games in order to let his imagination flow. I am a fan of the games and watched all 3 expecting them to be rubbish but found myskef deeply enjoying them.they have a fast paced stlye that you can not not love. people just want to whine "its not faithful" "i hate milla jovivich" "the storys rubbish" "its boring" and nobody wants to say the truth "wow, that was quite good" bring on afterlife!!

I think you guys are kidding yourselves a bit with a reboot this well crafted. There is no chance a studio will invest this much effort into a video game zombie movie if their returns on the "same old same old" is respectable enough. Teenage kids will keep going to see it.

Reident Evil is dead to me. It would take a seriously nastey virus to bring that series back. I reeboot is definatly what is needed similar to batman and bond. Resi should be scary edge of the seat stuff like [REC]. The films really should have the same mix of action and horror as Aliens...Or am i wishing too much?

RE: 3(film) was terrible and should have never been given the go ahead for 4. Like I've said before all Paul Anderson's Residents Evils have done is capitalize on small parts of individual resident evil games, and on a timescale basically have nothing to do with the games at all. If the story lines stick to that of the video games we would have some very awesome films, or go down the route of degeneragtion. There are so many plot holes from the games that need to be explored and a live action film would be possible to make from this. Fresh characters, same game locations, that run parrell to the story lines of the games, not just taking the Wesker from RE5 game to put into the RE4 film just because gamers will relate to that one little detail.
I will be so glad if a reboot happens but people are just sucking the sack of the RE films. It gets me that Sony reboot spiderman even though Sam Rami' films made millions, and this pathetic excuse of an video game adaptation is still being funded. o and Gemma Arterton? she is such a bad actress. she looks like she needs a sh*t all the time.

Total film you also forgot, Late November 2010, Milla jovovich divorces Paul Anderson for losing his only film project that he had... 3 days later Paul Anderson commits suicide for losing the only film project he had to do out of fear he will never be hired/commissioned again due to lack of vision, talent and originality

He is clinging on to these films because it's his last hope. It's all a joke anyways. But what have I done better? Ask me again in 12 months. It's not just resident evil that makes me sour. It's the fact that video game adaptations deserve so much better. Milla's character is more like a raiden/grey fox character from metal gear solid. Event horizon was excellent and if he recreated that tension and atmosphere with resident evil while sticking to the plot you have the making of a great franchise while keep fans happy and drawing a new audience. You can't disagree with that statement.

You have no idea how incredible the idea of this is. Leaving the theater after seeing RE: Afterlife , my two die-hard RE fan friends and I were talking about how awesome a storyline that paralleled the games would have been. I love RE:4 and the plot centered around Las Plagas and the Illuminati, and a movie based around that would be fantastic.

i can understand the people trying to make series their own and shying away from the original material but you do have to be carefull with which series you do it with. Silent Hill stuck close to the games and was actually very good because of it. Resi needs that back to basic zombie horror transformation.
