    Haha TF, get off Nolan's schlong. This list has some valid snubs (Imposter/Argo/Holy Motors/Django), but most of it is just pretty funny. You omit John Hawkes for The Sessions, but include Urban for Dredd? Nice. It makes me sad that this 'article' contributes towards someone's bank balance.

    A pretty good list there apart from Katherine Bigelow! Zero Dark Thirty should be nowhere near an Oscar nomination purely on the fact it is well below average!

    Let's face it the Academy has long been more about nepotism, the buddy system and expensive free gifts than actual movie credibility; so for me the blatant omissions you've listed here come as no real surprise to me. To be honest, for me, the Academy lost most of its credibility 16 years ago when "Titanic" received Best Picture over "As Good as it Gets" and "Good Will Hunting"

    What about Marion Cotillard for Rust and Bone? Leonardo DiCaprio should definitely have been nominated for Django. The Impossible deserved more recognition - particularly for VFX

    Agree with most of these, TF is a little bit TOO obsessed with the Raid as well and I don't agree with Dredd though. I'd like to add Moonrise Kingdom and The Master for Best Film, Over the Misty Moutains from The Hobbit for Best Original Song, Tom Hopper for Best Director and at least one nomination for Hitchcock!

    Great list. Not all but most I agree with. Personally, I thought Christopher Walken should have been nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Seven Psychopaths.

    Totally agree about Karl Urban in Dredd. Fantastic performance and movie. Killer score too, which should of got a nod. Same with Affleck and Bigelow Let's face it though, the academy is laughably out of touch and the Bafta's are no better with their snub of genre movies.

    Kathryn Bigelow and Tom Hooper overlooked at the Best Director is no surprise as they've won the Oscar for Best Director in 2010 and 11 respectively

    Even though The Dark Knight Rises is my No.1 fave film of the year, I don't think that it would be nominated for Best Picture as it was never intended to be nominated in that category, but as a whole, it didn't recieve a single Oscar nomination

    I literally could not be happier that Dark Knight Rises has been left off Best Picture list. And to say it never intended to be nominated in that category is ridiculous. Nolan, I'd wager was rubbing his hands together imagining he'd get the same honours Return of the King got in 2004. He won't because rather than creating an excellent 3rd part to a well loved film series, he made an over blown, badly scripted mess which deserves and will get nothing outside of technical awards, one of which won't be sound editing.. Also a shame Imposter didn't get a nod. West of Memphis will be loved by many but is simply riffing of the Paradise Lost series, itself a one sided and badly researched look at a case with far more complexity and grey area than Eddie Vedder and Johnny Depp would like us to think.

    The Dark Knight Rises isn't anywhere near worthy of Best Picture. The Imposter was fantastic and should be on the Documentary list, and The Raid was superb, visceral fun. Great to see Prometheus snubbed (almost) entirely, though. What a rubbish film.

    No offence, no matter how good the dark knight rises was, you are looking at the absolute wrong awards ceremony to think that it's an actual snub because the voting body is filled mostly with old white men who are afraid of fantasy flicks and comedies let alone superhero flicks and action fare. The films up for best picture this time are admiteddly far better than they have been in years but it's definitely missing it's share of genre films which happen to be some of the best films of the year (skyfall, tdkr, the raid, hobbit, looper) and considering how big genre film is and continues to be, it just kinda shows you If the oscars were irrelevant then, then they are pretty laughably unimportant now. I mean they are so irrelevant they fail to nominate affleck, bigelow and samuel jackson...yet no one really bats an eyelid because the oscars are just as well known for it's failures (more so maybe) as well as it's successes.

    JOHN HAWKES for THE SESSIONS??????????? there's a reason why he received a Globe nomination. Take out Joaquin Phoenix for The Master (he's not even the lead actor in that movie, and also was quoted how he didn't think The Master was anything special, anyway).

    Theres a certain allure to the Oscars, even when they get it wrong. Its all a circus. Don't worry, in 100 years time the majority will still think Shawshank Redemption is better than Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan better than Shakespeare in Love, LA Confidential better than Titanic, and every movie ever made is 10 times better than Chicago.

    I think Josh Brolin should've recieved a Oscar nomination for his amazing portrayal of 1960's Agent K. He was perfect. He looked and acted so much like the older Agent K that you really could believe that Josh Brolin and Tommy Lee Jones are the same person.

    I can never decide if total film is taking the p**s with these features now. What about Sean Penn for gangster squad for chewing that film up like a gobstopper, or Katy Perry for best documentary and while we are at it Lockout for best visual effects!! And lets not forget The Sweeney for best adapted screenplay...YOU SLAGS!

    I think they have a valid point with Dredd. Given it was the first time Urban had been the lead in a large-scale production (he was support in LOTR, Bourne, Riddick & Star Trek), The audience (and, indeed, the other actors) were unable to see his eyes for the entirety of the film, and he still completely owned the character, giving him a perfect transition from comic book to movie. Oh, and he completely obliterated any memories of Stallone..

    Ha, had a feeling Total Film would include The Dark Knight Rises on there, typical. For something to be "snubbed", it has to be Oscar-worthy to begin with, which that train-wreck wasn't.

    Jesus, there are some hilarious so-called snubs on here. The Dark Knight Rises was horribly boring, edited poorly, and had the least interesting bad guy from any of Nolan's Batman movies. He's fallen so far since making Memento and Insomnia. Seven Psychopaths was snubbed - Walken for best actor in supporting role/and maybe Woody Harrelson, and best original screenplay. The Perks of Being a Wallflower - I guess it didn't get one nomination so pick one or two. End of Watch - Gyllenhaal over Denzel Washington. Django Unchained - DiCaprio for supporting role, costume design. The Central Park Five and West of Memphis - best doc nominations. The Master - best picture.

    I agree, Looper for Original Screenplay, or Make-up, or Rian Johnson for Best Director (seriously, that 30 year montage is the stuff of wet dreams, but maybe that would be more in the editing). Matthew McConaghey for Best Actor in Killer Joe Cinematography in The Grey (it made snow interesting) or The Dark Knight Rises

    I really don't understand the cynicism of comments posted towards Total Film sometimes. I understand that they make mistakes and they have biased agenda's towards "homegrown" talent but I have to disagree that this snubs list is anyway inaccurate. The Academy have further proved that they are completely out of touch by snubbing the likes of Samuel L Jackson and DiCaprio but what infuriates me most is the consistent avoidance of superhero movies from the awards. I know people will disagree, but the Avengers and TDKR have been exceptional movies in the last 12 months. The fact they are 2 of the highest grossing movies of the year proves this but the Oscar's always go to the least commercial blockbusters which i don't think I will ever understand. Ted anyone?

    I reckon one of the biggest snubs was not nominating Cloud Atlas for anything. There's several it could have been nominated for: Best Visuals- They're outstanding int he futuristic scenes. Best costumes- The actors play several roles and the costume work is just amazing! Best Actor- Tom Hanks- he plays six characters in one film! How many other actors can say they've done that! Best Actress in a Leading Role- Halle Berry- She portrays six stunning characters putting pure emotion into her roles. Best Original Score- The music is beautiful and creates the perfect atmosphere for this brilliant film Best Adapted Screenplay- Based on the best-selling novel, it's portrayed perfectly onto screen for such a complex story. I reckon the nominations are abysmal this year and they've really missed out on some pure, talented film making. Rant over.

    The Oscar's is nothing but an overrated and overhyped awards ceremony. I couldn't care less who is nominated or who wins. Real film fans know what the best films are and don't need awards ceremonies to tell them what is quality.

    More like why was Bradley Cooper nominated in the first place? His performance is OK at best, no different from anything found on some US TV drama (except West Wing, The Wire, The Sopranos and Breaking Bad which are all superlative).

    Shameful snubs? Really? Seriously...really? There was 1 shameful snub. Maybe a couple of other snubs, and then a ridiculous list of things which obviously weren't snubs.
