Bring on the gore
Gaze upon the glory of Nolan's latest…
Exclusive: Magic In The Moonlight behind the scenes stills
He only crops up for a mid-section sojourn, but it’s electric to say the least – and if Hannibal Lecter can win an Oscar for just 16 minutes of screen time, why can’t Goodman? The Big Lebowski star is never better than when he’s paired with the Coens, and he’s exceptional as a vile jazz musician in Llewyn Davis. You won’t be able to get the film’s bathroom scene out of your head for weeks.

Oh come on! How on earth can you have '16 Shameful Oscar snubs' and not include Idris Elba for his immense performance as nelson Mandela in A Long Walk to Freedom?!!!

As for the Best Song, original or not. "Happy" by Pharrell Williams is nominated, and I highly doubt that was written for Despicable Me 2.

Still scratching my head at Tom Hanks exclusion. I love Cooper but if anyone deserves a Best Supporting Actor nomination from American Hustle it's Jeremy Renner. Payne and O.Russel over Greengrass and the Coens wtf.

Wonder if the snubs for Saving Mr Banks have anything to do with Meryl Streep's recent attack on Walt Disney.

Only Deakins for Prisoners. Why bother even bringing movies out from January through October. Just send them all to Pay per View and video since none will even be considered under the Academy voting system with their short term memory loss voters. As it is, video is the only way most movie watchers outside of LA/NY can even see the films before the awards ceremony.

Janet - I agree. One of the big issues I have with the awards season in general is how everything gets crammed into the winter season to be considered for awards, these ceremonies should honor movies regardless of their release date. Mud and Fruitvale station have been unjustly ignored just because they were released earlier in the year.

I'm pretty sure the only reason labour day was snubbed, was that it fell outside of the selection window as far as I'm aware it hasn't been released anywhere yet, limited or wide screenings
I think monsters university should definitely have got a best animated nom and I think they should've swapped dallas buyers club (which is good but not as good as the others by a long shot) for all is lost
in the opposite of a snub I'm happy Philomena got some attention as it looked like it was gonna be ignored between the much more hyped Hollywood candidates
why are there not 10 nominations for each category i wonder?
surely there are enough films out there now to warrant the increase?

Well, we all know that 12 years is going to win everything. Wolf of wall street should clear up as it was incredible, but it was clearly nominated to keep the peace after the angry outbursts from the senior academy members during its screening. I can't see it standing a chance unfortunately.

12 Years might not sweep the show it's got strong competition in the acting categories.

Thank you Total Film for recognising how horribly Rush has been ignored. I doubt I'll even watch the awards now its one of the worst snubs I've ever seen.

I shook my head when reading the sfx nominees. Like you, I expected MoS to be among them. But instead of focusing only on the ones left out, I'd like to say I was happy to see Frozen's "Let it go" be nominated for best original song! I saw the movie with my son, and that song/scene was fantastic! The kids felt the same way.

The Rush snubs are to be expected, seeing as Americans know f**k all about F1. They think motorsport is NASCAR, that's how clueless they are. The Blackfish decision... well The Cove won an Oscar in 2009, maybe they thought it was unfair for fish to win Oscars in Best Documentary in the space of half a decade. Or they didn't want to p**s off those w****rs at SeaWorld.

Have to agree that Rush deserved at least a nomination but then again I have to disagree with TF over Tom Hanks. Oscar season usually means two things an undeserved nomination for Dicaprio and Hanks. Thought Captain Phillips was laughable!

At least the Academy was smart enough to realize that The Butler was pure Oscar bait and avoided it. Or maybe it was just that forgettable.
Jan 22nd 2014, 5:41
"Is the Academy still recovering from his bizarre industry-leaving fake-out doc I’m Still Here? Probably." Really? Despite being nominated last year for THE MASTER?
And this article is meaningless/pointless without mentioning who should not have been nominated.

I'm still fuming over 'Drive' not being nominated for Picture or Director. And don't get me started on Fassbender being snubbed for 'Shame'.

Oprah for the Butler, Tom Hanks in Captain Phillips, and the soundtrack of Great Gatsby for Best Original Song

mollyenglish: Yes "Happy" was written specifically for Despicable Me 2 as Pharrell Williams had written the music and songs for the first movie and was asked back by the directors who loved what he did.
