Terminator 5 will be rated R

None of that family-friendly nonsense

A quick update on the Terminator 5 project this morning, with financier Megan Ellison confirming that the film will represent a return to the R-rated mindset of the original film.

“We can’t really tell you guys anything about Terminator,” said Ellison on her Twitter feed, “BUT it will be an R rated film as God and James Cameron intended.”

It’s news that will come as a relief to fans of the franchise, particularly after the blood and thunder was toned down for recent instalment Terminator: Salvation.

Hopefully this good news will soon be followed up by an announcement confirming a new director. Fast Five’s Justin Lin was initially attached to the position, before commitments to the next Fast & Furious movie meant he was forced to drop out.

We’ve also got no word on casting at this stage, although we won’t be alone in hoping that Arnold Schwarzenegger will be involved in some capacity. Terminator 5 is tentatively expected to arrive at some point in 2014.

Who would you like to see direct the film? Tell us, below.

Thank god none of that Expendables 2 c**p.I'd rather have an R-rated Exp2 without Chuck than a PG-13 with him...

A Low budget rated R installment might interest me, it all depends on who they get to direct, I'd love to see Duncan Jones do it.

I think The Expendables 2 is still going to kick a*s. plus Terry Crews said on his official twitter recently about The Expendables 2. ''I feel your pain about the EX2 PG-13. But do you really think we've all gone soft as baby thighs? No sirs. You will love it. Trust ya boy''. but anyway back on subject. imho I loved The Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgment Day & Terminator Salvation film. but hated the Terminator 3: Rise of the Bollocks film. I much preferd the much better film footage of T2: Battle Across Time & the amazing Terminator 3: Redemption computer game. but tbh I am really looking forward to Terminator 5 & I am also looking forward to Universal Soldier 5: A New Dimension as well. :-)

I would love to see James Cameron back as director instead of making those two pointless sequels to that s**t film Avatar. I think Ridley Scott would be a really good choice of director or how about John McTiernan, Nimród Antal, Stephen Sommers, Marcus Nispel (who is in production on the film version based on the awesome Hack/Slash comic atm) or Joe Johnston?. :-)

R - rating or not, this is still the 5th movie. I don't think it's likely that they will suddenly pull a great story out the bag at this point. As far as Arnie goes, I'd rather not see a 65year old man running around in leather wielding a shotgun, it would just be embarrassing. Never should have gone past 2, the story was wrapped up fine.

badger86 is right, let it go its dead. Leave it 10 years before its re-booted, not 5 minutes. And yeah Arnie is too old now. The only way to keep him in as a Terminator is through groundbreaking CGI. If he has to be in it, it should be as a 65 year old man, and fully clothed please!

If they make this film, then please just make it with the thought of making a decent film, not how we can get kids and grownups to watch it! if it has to be PG13 then fine, but only because the film decided it, not because they want to make as much money as possible because we all loved the first two films!l And like Aliens (didn't need Sigourney Weaver) this does not need Arnie! if it helps the story, then fine, but don't just add him because every terminator film needs him! Though would like to see a dark future war with the terminators properly done Or mayb

to me Terminator 2 is one of the best movies i've ever seen & its horrible seeing the sequels dragging the Terminator franchise through the mud. i heard there were rumours that linda hamilton might return and they were going to ignore terminator 3 & salvation, i guess as time travels involved anything could be possible
