The 20 Best Movie Drinking Games

Happy hour is feature length this St Patrick's Day

It's St Patrick's Day, and no doubt the pressure is on to head downtown for a few jars this evening (or, if you're a student, when doors open).

For the budding film fanatic, though, that cuts into viewing time, so here's the ideal way to keep inebriates and cinephiles alike happy.

We've compiled some of the best movie drinking games from the collective wisdom of web-based boozers, as well as adding a few on our own.  Sci-fi, gangster flicks, comedies and thrillers, classics and modern hits are all catered for.

All of these will get you wasted while doing the public service of keeping you off the streets.

Please drink responsibly.

The Shining

Lazydork is the Wikipedia of movie drinking games, a dedicated resource with hundreds of titles available, including their take on The Shining.

Choosing Stanley Kubrick's chiller feels wrong, somehow - after all, it's the tale of an alcoholic falling off the wagon and trying to murder his family.

And yet The 'Dork's game is a celebration of all those stylistic quirks that make it such an effective scare-story.

THE RULES

Drink Every Time:

- Room 237 is shown or mentioned
- Tony is referenced
- A titlecard is used
- Jack's writing is shown or mentioned
- The weather is referenced
- Anyone says "Torrance"

AND IF YOU REALLY WANT TO GET WASTED . . .
Anytime anyone sees something or someone that isn't really there.

Likely Hangover: Doomed to haunt The Overlook for perpetuity with a sore head.

Next: Reservoir Dogs

Seriously, have you guys never been involved in a drinking game?! If you had, there wouldn't be 20 fooking rules to each one! Drinking ruins the memory doesn't it?! So who is going to remember 'when Legolas looks fabulous' after an hour and a half of prolonged drinking?!?! NO-ONE!!! One Movie: Dude, Where's My Car One Rule: Drink when someone says DUDE. Guarenteed drunkeness in around 45 minutes. Simple and effective.

Only one of those drinking games has 20 rules! I love rules! I'm disappointed.

I think this is great, and am definitely going to try the Reservoir Dogs and Goodfellas games! You should do a Twilight one... that would be funny!

i agree with aberskene. i do like the creativity, but when im gettin hammered, i wont remember all of that. keep it simple: in The Big Lebowski, every time somebody says f**k, you drink. over 240 times, last time we tried to keep up.

common people princes bride drinking game, it gets the girls drinking, plus it gets you beyond drunk, in a clock wise around the room motion 1 person drinks per instance: when ever a memorable line is said (INCONCEIVABLE/hello, my name is inigo montoya. you killed my father, prepare to die./ect.)then if you are that unlucky sod in the group and Fred Savage interrupts the story you have to chug what your drinking, you will hate that punk by the third time, and want to kill him by the fifth, last time i did this one i managed to get him every time, between people stepping out for a smoke or people passing out

Home Alone drinking game - drink when the wet bandits should have died (3 gulps), horribly maimed (2 gulps) or required a hospital visit (1 gulp). Home Alone 2 is much better, especially the "bricks from above" scene - messy!
