How can Singapore Sling not be on this list? It's got incestual necrophilia, a girl giving her hermaphrodite mother a b*****b, a knife d***o, lots and lots of very realistic vomit, and one of the sickest dinner scenes ever filmed involving force feeding and regurgitation. And why is the Exorcist at the top of this list? I mean it's a good film, but the third one's better and none of them are really that disturbing. Glad to see Glass Cage, Salo, and Visitor Q on there though.

PulpFiction87 has it right--Ichi the killer is as disturbing a movie as I've ever seen. It's a good list, but The Exorcist isn't as terrifying as anything else on this list, thanks to that papier-mache devil. Also missing; Cronenberg's remake of the Fly. More disturbing than Videodrome or The Brood because it's frighteningly disturbing. And Repulsion by Polanski. Jesus.

Also, good call by debkakes on Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. There's a story that when the film debuted in Chicago, a woman walked out because she was terrified, and she ran into the actor who plays Henry on the street. She let out a bloodcurdling scream and almost passed out. Irreversible was rubbish, btw.

To those who bring up "A Serbian Film", I argue that it's most difficult scenes to watch are the last 15 minutes, but it did NOT deserve to be on this list. This was an interesting list, a lot of these movies I have on my Netflix Queue, if I didn't add most of them. I just hope as far as disturbing movies go, there is some kind of respectable reason besides "It's a difficult scene to watch" has something here.

This list a great list! Very fun to talk about and debate. Some of my personal favs are just about anything by Cronenberg, Lynch, or Waters. C'mon, let's not forget the fart guy from "Pink Flamingo". I totally agree with "Ichi", "Texas Chainsaw", and definitely "Meet the Feebles"!!! One of my recommendations is 2002's "May". I must admit, I also enjoyed the disgustingness of the recent 2005's "House of Wax". But if you want to watch something REALLY awful, rent "Teeth". ...Ugh.

Two major faults with this list; The Exorcist is a great movie, but I think every other movie there is more disturbing than it, except for Human Centipede which I just can't take seriously. Also Antichrist should be in like the top ten, it freaking messes with your head. And the only reason that August Undergrounds Mordum isn't number one must be that you haven't seen it, or simply don't consider it a film, more of a f****d up strange video.

Great list. Got myself some watching to do. In regards to most of the comments, the one I'd agree with most is Requiem For A Dream. Just from a totally psychological view. It leaves to drained by the end of it. I'd also say August Underground Mordum should have been added in to. That's the only film I've ever felt like I need to take a shower after watching. Salo comes very close to that too.

Not bad. I agree Ichi should have a place, but I thought the Human Centipede was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. I almost died laughing when he put his medical diagrams that were essentially stick-men up on the wall. A lot of these are also getting on a bit now and they definitely lose some of their power as they age, mostly because they've been imitated.

No ICHI THE KILLER?!? All Takashi Miike films are disturbing but I found ICHI THE KILLER to be much more disturbing than AUDITION. I'm also really surprised HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER didn't make the list either. I think that ALL of Gaspar Noe's films should be included (I STAND ALONE, IRREVERSIBLE and ENTER THE VOID) and that IRREVERSIBLE should be MUCH higher on the list. I was glad to see ANTICHRIST on the list but think it should have a higher slot than #25. No REQUIEM FOR A DREAM on the list?! I'm sure many of the movies that're listed are more disturbing but few could possibly match its quality. While I can enjoy disturbing films, I have no respect for films that're disturbing but lack substance and quality ...and some of the movies on this list lack substance. They're just sick (examples include any of those"Guinea Pig" movies from Japan that are just torture movies & that pointless film, Salo). On the flip side, I tip my cap for the David Lynch entries. He's a true master of psychological horror and one of the world's best directors. It would have been nice to see LOST HIGHWAY make the list too. I'd like to recommend people check out the DIRECTOR'S CUT of THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT (director's cut has totally different, disturbing ending). Andre Isknanov's psychedelic movie, VISIONS OF SUFFERING is worh a view too. Overall, this is a pretty respectable list and I thank you for putting it together. There are a few movies on here that I missed and now plan to see. Also, thanks to the people who bothered to comment for making other great suggestions that aren't on the list.

Fire Walk With Me is the most disturbing film I've ever seen, followed by Videodrome. Both are very f****d-up, but Videodrome fills you with a sense of disgust, where Fire Walk With Me fills you with a sense of absolute despair. End of Evangelion is also very disturbing, but in a more subtle way.

Not sure if "shock-u-mentaries" were considered in this list, but the bloodbath extravaganza known as the TRACES OF DEATH series, volumes 1-5, is both highly disturbing (for MOST people, I'd say about 95% of the population easily) and brutally interesting (in a copious amount of hardcore disturbing footage kind of way. The boxed DVD set is a must have for both gore hounds and thrill seeking cinema goers looking for a total shock to their craniums. If you've never heard of the series or viewed it before, I highly reccomend checking it out if disturbing is what you are after. Beware however, as this series is not "reproducted footage trying to pass itself off as real" like the FACES OF DEATH series. The footage in TRACES OF DEATH is indeed authentic. Autopsies, murders, executions, accidental deaths, suicides (infamous Bud Dwyer footage found on Volume 1), surgeries, car wrecks, riot scenes this movie is full of bloody aftermaths and death scenes that make even the most hardcore horror movie geeks cringe. As far as films of the fictional variety go I would have to say that like others have stated, A SERBIAN FILM is indeed probably the most disturbing one out there. Oh and one more thing, "The Human Centipede" sucked major a*s!!!

Martyrs at number 22? Huh? I'm really scratching my head on that one! It should have been higher up o the list. It took me 3 days to finish that movie, because it was way too much for my brain to take in all at once. I really didn't find Audition all that disturbing...especially not that disturbing to be so high up in the list. Cannibal Holocaust physically makes me sick. Yes, they killed real animals, and the turtle scene was pretty bad, but the scene towards the beginning where the professor is searching for the lost footage, and he and two others spot one of the cannibals with a female victim. He proceeds to pound a big a*s rock into her lady bits...ugh! It's a movie I'm glad to have in my collection, but I won't be watching it again anytime soon. And I found myself chuckling through Human Centipede...I'm pretty sure if I woke up to my mouth attached to someone else's a*s and someone's mouth attached to my a*s, I'd just lose all hope...screw trying to crawl around and find an escape route!

This list was great until I saw The Exorcist at number 1. That movie is not disturbing.

The Human Centipede was definitely one of the worst movies I've seen. I found it to be so boring and do not understand how it was disturbing in any way. The idea of it was disturbing, but the actual movie was so c**p. That being said, I think The Human Centipede 2 deserves a place on this list. That one was 10x more disturbing than the first.

The info on The Human Centipede is incorrect! It was made in 2009 not 2010. And it says "Katsuro, defecates into the unwilling mouth of next in the chain Jenny." That is wrong too! Next in the chain was Lindsay. Jenny was the girl on the end

"Caligula" made in(1979) It remains one of the most infamous cult films ever made and remains banned in several countries to this day. It is regarded as one of the worst films of all time.
