From the student bedroom wall to a four-and-a-half-hour, two-part epic, Steven Soderbergh has crafted the essential biopic of revolutionary Che Guevara. It was so good as a whopping whole that half of Cannes missed the Champions League final, but despite its cinematic split – into The Argentine and The Guerrilla – Che remains vital. Benicio Del Toro is on Oscar form as the beret bearer who first takes Cuba with Fidel Castro before revolting rather than revolutionising Bolivia.
