THE BEST ANIMATED DOCUMENTARY OF THE YEAR
Make that ever... It begins with Ari Folman (star, director, writer, ex-soldier) scrabbling around in dreams for memories of what happened back in the ’82 Israeli/Lebanese war and ends with a timely gut-punch of a refugee-camp atrocity. The Waking Life-style visuals are shimmering but ungimmicky and Folman’s point is caustic and clear (“War is useless. No glam, no glory, just young men going nowhere.”)
