The 50 Most Awesome Movie Fights... EVER!

Arnie, Sly, Van Damme, Seagal and the Rancor...

10. David Does Goliath

Billy Lo (Bruce Lee) vs Hakim (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar): Game Of Death (1978)

Garbed in that Kill Bill-destined yellow jumpsuit, the 5’7” Brucie waddles on over to his reclining 7’2” opponent before a contemptuous punt from a size 15 lays him out flat on his martial arse.

WINNER!
Billy floors and pins the giant, locking him into a crippling chokehold… And squeeze. And twist. And KERRUNCH.

9. Saloon Brawl

Wade Hatton (Errol Flynn) vs Dodge City: Dodge City (1939)

The definitive saloon brawl. It’s good, in fact, that it was used again and again by the studio as stock footage. Mel Brooks even parodied it in Blazing Saddles by having his fist-fingers bust out of the set and into contemporary Hollywood.

WINNER! That’d be Errol. Starring in his first Western, the actor (a seasoned scrapper for real) has a riot, sending varmints smashing through windows, crashing over tables and sliding across bars as the fists, bottles and spittle fly.

8. “Come On!”

Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) vs Alien Queen: Aliens (1986)

With her giant pincer arms, Weaver, with the aid of a forklift, deflects the Alien’s squidgy attacks. But her xenomorph foe has some tricks up her sleeve: a razor-sharp tail and a snapping proboscis inside her gob.

WINNER! Ripley finally gets the upper hand by dumping the Queen in a cargo lock and opening its doors, sending the slimy one spinning off into space.

7. Fistophobia

Ash (Bruce Campbell) vs His Own Hand: Evil Dead II (1987)

The finest moment of schlock-slapstick in Sam Raimi’s comedyfied video-nasty sequel sees our hard-suffering hero punched up by his own demon-possessed hand before lopping it off with a chainsaw (“WHO’S LAUGHING NOW?”).

WINNER! Eventually, Ashe traps the hand under a big bucket, weighed down by a pile of books, wittily topped off with A Farewell To Arms.

6. Pen Pals

Martin Q Blank (John Cusack) vs Felix La PuBelle (Benny Urquidez): Grosse Pointe Blank (1997)

If this brawl looks authentic, that’s no accident: Cusack’s a skilled kickboxer while his opponent, Benny ‘The Jet’ Urquidez, is his real-life instructor… who also happens to be a world champion, undefeated in 24 years of pro fighting.

WINNER! The boy Blank sinks a peninto Felix’s neck, deflating his opponent as Nena’s ’99 Red Balloons’ pumps in the background.

I love the fight in They Live. It is hilarious, violent, and prolonged to the point of nervousness. I love it.

What about Sergeant Angel vs Trolley Boy in 'Hot Fuzz'? Down right hilarious! Or Neo vs agent Smith in The Matrix? The staircase fight in 'Casino Royale'? OR the one between Bond and that Mole in 'Quantam of Solace'? AND the epicness of the fight on top of the mill wheel in PoC: Dead Man's Chest?...... Oh there are just too many!

What about Carson versus the terrorist in Paris in Team America. Vicious, brutal and totally unchoreographed apparently.
