With so much of the movie’s world existing primarily as ones and zeroes in a computer’s brain, it’s tough not to focus on the technological accomplishments.
Despite his self-proclaimed love of pushing the CG/3D boundaries, Cameron is convinced we’ll all be concentrating on the reality of the story, not the near-photo-reality of the characters.
“The irony with Avatar is that people think of it as a 3D film and that's what the discussion is, but I think when they see it, the whole 3D discussion is going to go away.
“I think the discussion is going to be about the fact that you've got synthetic characters that are so true to what the actors did in terms of the performances that they actually have a soul, they have an emotional reality, and they have life.
“I think that's going to be the story of this world that took us four years to create, and all its detail - the creatures, environments, and the reality of all these fantasy characters that don't seem like fantasy at all.”

I just saw the 15 minute preview at the BFI Imax... and I now feel quite sick. The mix of photo-realistic 3D and Cameron's shaky camera shots and POV bits, with sound that physically shakes the seats(!) make the whole thing feel like you're riding a simulator. Fair play to Cameron, as the visuals are fantastic, but perhaps the film should come with a motion-sickness warning, like Cloverfield.

Truly terrible dialogue, if this is the best they could show us!!! The creatures, not the Na'Vi which are just tall blue shaved cats, are the kind of monsters children draw. A rhino crossed with a hammer-head shark and a butterfly, a six legged panther crossed with Alien. And everything glows, far too bright. The scene in the jungle has heavy tree coverage, but is still bright so it looks total fake. If you've played Halo, Gears of War, Resident Evil or any game with lots of video cut away story, then you've seen better. I wanted this too be better, I wanted it to be the next step in cinema, but its not. Someone needs to get Jim Cameron to go play some games of watch some cinema to see that even 'Ant Bully' follows the same basic story line (also see 'Ferngully', 'Arthur and the Invisibles', 'Battle for Terra')- Human goes native, finds their not the bad guys, learns about himself, falls in love, nature is good and humans destroy it and that a battle at the end has humans now being the bad guys. Too high a budget means high returns needed, ie keep it family friendly.

Is it just me or do the graphics for this film look like Animatrix, Final Fantasy spirits within and Final Fantasy VII Advent Children? With the film starring big Blue Thunder Cats who look like Kimahri Ronso from Final Fantasy X, Im looking forward to it as something different :D
