Why He’s Perfect: Ask the Hollywood rumour mill. If you believe the Chinese whispers emerging from the industry, Franco has as good as bagged himself the lead in the new Bourne franchise, although crucially, he won’t be playing Bourne himself. He’ll likely be another victim of Treadstone’s brainwash-heavy training program, possibly a contemporary of the great man himself.
So would he be up to the job? Well, his performance in 127 Hours would suggest he’d be up to the task physically, and we already know he’s got charm and warmth in spades. Okay, so he might not have a lot of action credits on his CV, but Matt Damon was hardly Arnie when he joined the series. Franco is the frontrunner by a distance, and to our minds, an excellent choice.
Essential Scene: We don’t want Franco doing a straight cover version of Damon’s performance. We’d like to see his character as a more louche, fun-loving operative, so a boozy seduction scene would be most welcome.
But if Franco can't do it...

There is a massive Hardy bandwagon at the moment... and in his case, it's fully justified. You could liken him to Bale, pre-Salvation. Stay in the thickets Tom. Franchise gonna get ya else.

I don't get the Hardy craze. I like the idea of Pine taking over the franchise, he'd have been a natural fit but he's been nabbed elsewhere. Pity. James Franco as the lead in the Bourne franchise? Hopefully not. He's cool but he's not that cool. But someone who is cool, if a little young-ish, is Joseph Gordon Levitt. After his performance in Inception, is there anyone who doesn't think he would be mega wicked in an action franchise? He could kick a*s and still bring the measure of depth and complexity required to flesh out any Bourne replacement. He'd be gold.

Personally I think there should be a major twist- I would pick Franco out of the rogues listed-mostly because I think he could really go insane-totally loose it I'd go complete left-field for his chick sidekick wing I'd say Christina Hendricks, she's done a little action and as of yet the girls in these movies aren't required to do much of any fighting anyway, she's got something cold and lonely to her acting a perfect match for a spy gone off the rails. For the twist and to insure a second film the movie end with her and Franco walking into a house-cut to treadstone underling saying to the boss,"we have confirmation the sleeper is with (insert name)" I mean why no girl spies? Not as physically strong yes, But what if him having to kill her in the next movie makes him go on a rampage? Or maybe he has to torture her into telling him info?
