Little Women (1994)

Bale got a romantic role in this adaptation of the Louisa May Alcott novel. His Laurie unsuccessfully tries to woo older March sister Jo (Winona Ryder), but he's rebuffed and later gets with Amy when she grows from Kirsten Dunst into Samantha Mathis.

The film isn't actually as sugary and sentimental as you might expect, and it's easy to get swept up in the family saga.

Fighting Spirit? This is about the sappiest you've ever seen the future Dark Knight.

      I'm pretty sure the title of #6 is "Newsies" not "The News Boys" :)

      You left out his turn as Howl in Howl's Moving Castle. Certainly that was a performance well worth mentioning!

      I've always been a big fan of Christian Bale and think he is an outstanding actor. I also really hope he bags the Best Supporting Actor Oscar this year as I thought he gave an amazing performance in The Fighter which I believe is quite possibly his best performance to date. Can't wait to see him get started on The Dark Knight Rises.

      I dont always agrre with the threads on these forums but when it comes to Bale, theres just no denying his incredible ability to not only turn any film into a cult classic but to make the movie his own! What a method Actor! Cant wait to see the Fighter and with Mark Wahlburg too! ( As long as Marky Mark is in Departed Mode of Course) Love pretty much everything Bales in, Loving the build up to dark Knight Rises and Big Bale fan all round.
