Following British tele bit-parts on the likes of Absolutely Fabulous and Family Affairs (seriously), Elba got his break on six-part horror serial Ultraviolet.
In the criminally-unknown Jack Davenport-starring vampire serial he provided pivotal support as Vaughan Rice, a secret government operative who initially masqueraded as a police officer. That old chestnut.
Cockney? Standard UK mutterings.

As it stands I still call him Stringer when I see him in anything else. He hasn't done anything good enough to cause me to refer to him by his actual name.. "Givin' me far to many forty degree days Idris.."

lol....That is funny. I am just now watching The Wire. I am up to season three and I just watched the epsiode with the "forty degree days" speech in it. He is amazing in The Wire, though with McNulty looking in Dee's suicide, I have a feeling Avon will be making sure Stringer gets got soon enough. As an American, I would like to thank you all for letting us borrow Idris Alba!
