The trailer for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has arrived online, and it’s as warm and nostalgic as a hug from an old friend.
Unsuprisingly - given the fact that he’s the chief character - we’re introduced to Bilbo Baggins first off. Helping anyone unfamiliar with the books to get up to speed, Ian Holm’s older Bilbo is regaling his younger relation, LOTR’s Frodo, with the true story of his adventure. With this framework narrative being set up, expect multiple endings by the time Part 2 is finished.
Back in the familiar setting of Hobbiton, Gandalf’s proposition to Bilbo (“I’m looking for someone to share an adventure”) is comfortingly reminiscent of the way in which he sets Frodo the challenge in Fellowship.
And Martin Freeman vindicates his casting with a simple look of bemusement and a puff of a pipe. We’re sold already, but there’s plenty more goodies in store…

Gandalf is fighting Thrain II in that image/scene, and that shot of Bilbo glancing at the Ring takes place in Mirkwood hence the thick spider-webs. /rant

Maybe the reason for the absences is they feature in the second film...

@storage1129 the ring shot is not Mirkwood. He always found it in the Goblin tunnels because it is when "Riddles In The Dark" happens

willow138 -- He finds it in the Goblin tunnels, yeah, but tthat is a Mirkwood shot. The lighting, vegetation and spider-webs are a dead give away. Do you doubt that at one point Bilbo would not drop the Ring being surprised (or tussle with) by Ungoliant's children?

Does anyone know if we're gonna get a Theatrical cut and an Extended cut like before? (wish they'd done that with the Potter films too!)
