“Allow me to introduce Fili, Kili, Oin, Gloin, Dwalin, Balin, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, Dori, Nori, Ori, and, the leader of our company, Thorin Oakenshield.”
That’s Gandalf’s mouthful of an introduction to Bilbo’s unexpected party guests, the company of Dwarves. Given the fact that there’s 13 Dwarves to play with, the design team have gone to town. Is Jackson going to have trouble finding time for all of them in the final cut? We have a sneaking suspicion they’ll all be allowed a moment to show off.
If one Dwarf is going to stand out though, it’s Thorin, who's looking to be this one’s Aragorn: the moody, brooding hero of the bunch.
And when the gang burst into song, it’s eerily reminiscent of the tune Aragorn belts out at the end of The Return Of The King. It’s no jolly drunken singsong; this is sombre stuff, with real weight.
