So, this is a very generous first trailer, but what don’t we see?
Notable by their absence are Evangeline Lilly’s Elven Tauriel, Stephen Fry’s Master of Laketown, and Bret ‘Flight Of The Conchords’ McKenzie, and there’s no sign of bear-man shapeshifter Beorn.
But, unsurprisingly, the most glaring absentee is the big bad of the piece, Smaug the dragon. In the finished films, Smaug will be played by Benedict Cumberbatch, who’ll be donning a tight, black, dot-speckled suit to portray the beast via performance capture. Don’t expect him to be revealed for some time yet; PJ and co will probably have us gnashing our teeth in anticipation for a while

Gandalf is fighting Thrain II in that image/scene, and that shot of Bilbo glancing at the Ring takes place in Mirkwood hence the thick spider-webs. /rant

Maybe the reason for the absences is they feature in the second film...

@storage1129 the ring shot is not Mirkwood. He always found it in the Goblin tunnels because it is when "Riddles In The Dark" happens

willow138 -- He finds it in the Goblin tunnels, yeah, but tthat is a Mirkwood shot. The lighting, vegetation and spider-webs are a dead give away. Do you doubt that at one point Bilbo would not drop the Ring being surprised (or tussle with) by Ungoliant's children?

Does anyone know if we're gonna get a Theatrical cut and an Extended cut like before? (wish they'd done that with the Potter films too!)
