Universal postpone production in wake of Paul Walker's tragic death
Possibly the trailers most stirring moments involve Gandalf the Grey getting back into the action. We see him wandering around some ruins early in the trailer, and later he introduces a marauder (we reckon it's the Goblin King - check out the image above) to the blunt edge of his staff. Oh, and it turns out he’s been able to do that ‘burst of light’ trick from LOTR since way back when…

Gandalf is fighting Thrain II in that image/scene, and that shot of Bilbo glancing at the Ring takes place in Mirkwood hence the thick spider-webs. /rant

Can't wait for this, what with The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers aswell, 2012 could be one of the best film years ever :D

Maybe the reason for the absences is they feature in the second film...

@storage1129 the ring shot is not Mirkwood. He always found it in the Goblin tunnels because it is when "Riddles In The Dark" happens

willow138 -- He finds it in the Goblin tunnels, yeah, but tthat is a Mirkwood shot. The lighting, vegetation and spider-webs are a dead give away. Do you doubt that at one point Bilbo would not drop the Ring being surprised (or tussle with) by Ungoliant's children?

Does anyone know if we're gonna get a Theatrical cut and an Extended cut like before? (wish they'd done that with the Potter films too!)
