Exclusive: The Biblical blockbuster gets a-planning
The new Mr. Fantastic speaks about what drew him to the project
Take a trip to the dark side…
This is the single biggest issue that Warners needs to fix before they put together a Justice League film.
Christopher Nolan has gone on record to state he won't be involved with the project.
And no Nolan, no Bale. No Bale, no pre-established connection to the Justice League universe, which means a lead-in reboot is required.
After the huge success of Nolan's Batman franchise, both critically and commercially, the pressure on the next Bat franchise is immense.
Introducing the next Batman is arguably more challenging than launching a Justice League movie series, and it needs Warner Brothers' full focus.
If it fails, the whole house of cards tumbles down.

Isn't there a Batman reboot in the works already? I searched for it today, but I couldn't find the IMDb page that I stumbled upon a few months back. It was simply titled 'Untitled Batman Reboot' and had David S. Goyer credited as writer...

While all of your suggestions make sense, most of them won't happen. Kevin Smith has already passed on several super hero projects and others because he did not want the studio over his shoulder every second; which is what they tend to do on billion dollar franchises (unless your name starts with George and ends with Lucas). Secondly, none of the leadin films will be done. This is a kneejerk reaction to The Avengers' (sorry, I live in The Colonies) success. WB wants to cash in on it ASAFP. They want their own billion $$$ ensemble superhero move quickly and they want to do it as cheaply as possible. Remember when Gladiator was such a huge succes and then there were 10 ripoffs in the next 18 months, Troy, Kingdon of Heaven, etc? Same thing here. It is more about quantity than quality.

They just shouldn't bother. There's already a Super Man film coming which probably won't even be related to the Justice League and won't work as a lead-in to a Justice League film. The best Batman films ever have been made and will not be topped. There is absolutely no reason to reboot Batman. It's done. The notion of it is just f*****g ridiculous. To just start making new versions of perfect films so soon after they came out, and only for the sake of forcing a franchise which will only be hoping to feed off the success of another franchise. The whole thing is a f*****g mess. By the time the Justice League film comes out I bet the whole comic-book-movie trend will have died out and no one will even give a s**t. If they really want to do it, they shouldn't force it. They should just leave it for a few years and take their time putting something credible together. And they should definitely realise that no one wants another Batman unless it's one directed by Nolan and starring Bale. And even that would be beating a dead horse. The Dark Knight Rises wasn't bad but it was no where near as good as the first two and it didn't give any reason to expect any further sequels. People should stop just accepting that this nonsense is going to happen. They should be annoyed because it actually might happen.

Realistically it will take Warner 6 years to bring out a Justice League movie - 3 years if not tied to any other franchise continuity. The problem though is that only Superman and Batman have widespread apeal and recognition. What are Wonder Woman's exact powers anyway?
Aug 9th 2012, 17:24
They should just use John Blake's Batman (which was obviously where TDKR ending was going) in the Justice League. Problem solved.

DC is going to do the Justice League in a different way than the Avengers. I heard that they are going to release the movie, and, if it does well, then do all the spin-off movies about each character. Most people know who Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, and Flash are, we have grown up with them on TV. The Justice League movie would serve as the re-boot for all these great heroes, then, they can tell the back story and expand on them. I just hope that they leave out the Wonder Twins and Gleek :}

No aquaman? No super man? No Wonder Twins? No Hawkman? No Atom? Fail.

Really can't see a Wonder Woman movie lifting off. She's best saved to be explored in the Justice League film along with the alien dude. I think Aquaman has a better chance for being a successful stand alone film - better visuals and a more interesting character. Problem is you've got Nolan's Batman movies and Man Of Steel looking very realistic (to a point) and I honestly don't think Batman needs to be dressed up once again before this film. I mean it's not like we turned around and said "wait, I thought the Joker died already?" when watching The Dark Knight let alone having to endure the origin story again (as enjoyable as it was). I think the Green Lantern needs to be reworked some how with a new Flash movie and Aquaman and then Justice League. But to be fair, by the time it comes around, Marvel would've stuffed yet more superhero movies down our throats and we'll be dying for a breath of fresh air for something completely new because superhero films will undoubtedly run their course if they haven't already. For starters my guess is that pretty much all these films will be rated 12A leading to the same level of entertainment for each one. Nothing will be a risk taker unfortunately.

As The Avengers showed you don't need the entire team together, Superman IMO is the only vital ingrediant to get a Justice League movie off the ground.
Aug 9th 2012, 19:52
This is the one of the worst ideas i've heard! They will kill all of there superheros in one fast fall and the fact there thinking of doing it/ doing it is mad, they should just have a run with the realistic superman films and then plan it all out and in like 5/10 years start dropping the superhero films in a different way to how the avengers is!
Aug 9th 2012, 21:33
Watchmen, X-men and Gaurdians of the Galaxy all launched/launching on their own merit. DC don't have to go the Marvel route. I would argue that the tenuous link in the films prior to The Avengers didn't make The Avengers the colossus success that it was. I would like to see a Justice League Trilogy built from the ground up with the same level of closely guarded secrecy that Nolan shrouded Batman in. Thumbs upto DC and Warner I see. I am sure they will learn from The Green Lanterns mistakes. Isn't Kevin Smith friends with Aflek who knows Ben may direct and Kevin produce?

Zack Snyder has said already that the Nolan/Bale Batman will not be linked at all to the Snyder/Cavill Superman and that the JLA movie is being discussed only as a standalone feature. So, basically they're already screwed because they're trying to recreate Batman, recreate Superman, recreate Green Lantern and then introduce Wonderwoman, The Flash, that ridiculous Aquaman guy etc. All in the space of 2 hours?! No way, JLA just isn't going to work and they need to stop worrying about it. They've got a good thing going allowing their heroes to have their own space. Why not just go with that? Or ... here's a crazy thought ... do it as an animation targetted towards older audiences. There's still a stigma in the west about that (look at the trouble The Goon has over funding) and all it takes is someone with guts to just do it anyway.
Aug 10th 2012, 14:36
They need to include Henry Cavill's Superman, it makes no sense to have two Clark Kent's floating about.
Aug 10th 2012, 14:55
so it was ok to recast Hulk from Norton to Ruffalo without a reboot, yet we need reboots before a JL film because of Green Lantern's CGI suit and no Bale Batman? F*ck right off!
Aug 10th 2012, 15:56
@tariqsheikh. I think the point is that Ruffalo was playing the same version of banner/the hulk that Norton played, but they wouldn't really be able to use Bale's Batman as that was grounded in reality too much and there wouldn't be much scope to suddenly introduce Metahumans into that world.
Aug 10th 2012, 16:30
plus I doubt Bale would be interested anyway. He closed the book on Batman with TDKR.
Aug 10th 2012, 17:20
Calfbasa said "No aquaman?" Where have you been the last 10 years??? Vincent Chase and James Cameron already made Aquaman. What more do you want?
Aug 10th 2012, 19:27
some good points up there.
here's MY take on doing a JLA project.
Nick Fury Green Lantern. confused? i mean, just go with John Stewart. go black. you can make this John Stewart an amalgamation of several other green lanterns, like Hal, Alan and Kyle..oh and, yeah..John himself (both the comic book and cartoon versions). but...keep Guy Gardner separate. he's just too unique and interesting character to write off. he and John would make and interesting dynamics between two VERY different earth GLs which would create cool (read: hilarious) banters and character clashes. we need Guy BE Guy. as for John, i won't mind him being a fighter pilot..but make him a pilot (Hal) with an engineering background (John) or a hobby in visual arts (Kyle).
with Flash..just go with Barry Allen, cuz, he's the one with the clearer origin story. he's got one of those classic super hero-ish "accident" story. but, they can still make him somewhat a smart a*s, like Wally West, in the toons. but, forget bout Jay and Bart.
as for Wonder Woman, you just gotta be careful in doing her outfit. it just has to be RIGHT for a live-action (reality-grounded) movie. and whoever the actress is gonna be, she just gotta be CONVINCING that she can really kick a*s. we need a GINA CARANO..only taller.
Bats..it shouldn't be a problem, as long as they don't totally discard what Nolan has built and done (in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight)..forget about the last one. TDKR SUCKS.
for Superman...i guess Cavill'll do.
for the director...either get J.J Abrams or Brad Bird. both are great with team movies. JJ with Star Trek and Brad with The Incredibles. and each had done a great Mission: Impossible movie.
so, yeah..THAT's my tasks for WB.
Aug 10th 2012, 22:50
I don't see the problem with The Flash, I mean how many mainstream cinemagoers would have heard of Iron Man, Thor or Captain America before their respective movies?
Aug 27th 2012, 16:46
IMO - Kevin Smith to oversee leads ins and then write and direct JL would cool. Though they should ginore all other film versions of characters and do like 9 film epic, introducing each charater and ending with JL.
Thatway you don't tarnish what has come before (Dark Knight), and you can forget the awful films (Green Lantern)

I agree with these points however I think the best plan for Warner at this point is to ride on the success of The Man of Steel not with a Justice League movie but instead make a Batman/Superman movie. This would allow them to introduce Batman outside of the Nolan universe and into what would eventually be the Justice League world. Hopefully Man of Steel is being made with a justice league nod and then by bringing these two iconic characters together it would be a garunteed success and would lay the needed groundwork. From here they could make a Wonderwoman movie and the Flash movie they should have made years ago!
