In 2002, director Ridley Scott was considering returning to the universe that kick-started his career by mounting a sequel to Alien. He recruited James Cameron to work on a script, and Sigourney Weaver was expected to return. Something got in the way, though.
“Ridley and I talked about doing another Alien film,” Cameron told Ain’t It Cool News shortly after. “And I said to 20th Century Fox that I would develop a fifth Alien film. I started working on a story, I was working with another writer and Fox came back to me and said, ‘We've got this really good script for Alien Vs Predator,’ and I got pretty upset. I said, ‘You do that you're going to kill the validity of the franchise in my mind.’” Needless to say, Cameron departed, and the project was put on ice. By 2009, though, Fox had trundled out a trashed AVP (and AVP2) and were looking for new directions to take the franchise in…

Just out of interest, do most people tend to track down a review of a major film before going to see it? I'll usually read one if i come across it, but don't generally track down reviews of the big films i'm going to see. If a film gets a bad review (or, i suppose a really positive one), would it have an affect on how you enjoyed the film? If a major film reviewer, such as the mighty Total Film, either raved about or completely dismissed a new blockbuster, would you find yourself almost having to agree with them while watching the film too? i sometimes have watched a film thinking "the review said this was awful, therefore i should also find it awful, but i'm not" or vice-versa with a good review.

I tend to pay attention to just 2 reviews.. Empire and Total Film. Normally I'll just read the last bit (at the bottom with the star rating) and then read the whole thing after I've seen the film. With something like Prometheus the overall rating won't have any affect on whether I see the film not.

I'm going to see it no question of that but just want to know the opinion of tf before I do. And no it won't affect my opinion when I do see it

'Another reason it’s unlikely to happen? Ridley Scott’s going back to “the planet”, or LV-426, himself, and he’s left Ripley at home…' Ah, but he hasn't. I believe the planetoid in Prometheus to be LV-223, or LV-233. Same system, different rock.
