So why is a science-fiction film called Prometheus? “The story of Prometheus is the idea that if you’re given a gift from the gods, do not abuse it and do not think you can compete,” Ridley explains, citing the original Greek myth. “[Prometheus] stole fire and then had his entrails torn out every day in perpetuity by an eagle as a punishment. Basically, don’t fuck around with gods!”
Prometheus, then, is a story about power, control and possibly even the origins of man. Though many of its mysteries won’t be revealed until the film opens in cinemas this week, Ridley and co clearly have some big ideas to back up their tale of intergalactic mayhem. “It is about the beginning of life,” Ridley says. “It’s a giant ‘what if?’ Has this ball that we’re sitting on right now been around here for three billion years or one billion? Either way, it’s a long fucking time. It’s only our kind of arrogance that says, ‘We’re the first ones.’”

Just out of interest, do most people tend to track down a review of a major film before going to see it? I'll usually read one if i come across it, but don't generally track down reviews of the big films i'm going to see. If a film gets a bad review (or, i suppose a really positive one), would it have an affect on how you enjoyed the film? If a major film reviewer, such as the mighty Total Film, either raved about or completely dismissed a new blockbuster, would you find yourself almost having to agree with them while watching the film too? i sometimes have watched a film thinking "the review said this was awful, therefore i should also find it awful, but i'm not" or vice-versa with a good review.

I tend to pay attention to just 2 reviews.. Empire and Total Film. Normally I'll just read the last bit (at the bottom with the star rating) and then read the whole thing after I've seen the film. With something like Prometheus the overall rating won't have any affect on whether I see the film not.

'Another reason it’s unlikely to happen? Ridley Scott’s going back to “the planet”, or LV-426, himself, and he’s left Ripley at home…' Ah, but he hasn't. I believe the planetoid in Prometheus to be LV-223, or LV-233. Same system, different rock.
