Seriously? How can this film even be considered a documentary. After and during seeing it it's so obviously fake that I can't begin to understand how people aren't talking about this more. A short article that gives a good rundown: http://www.movieline.com/2010/01/does-sundance-sensation-catfish-have-a-truth-problem.php I'd even consider that they took it further and that they're in 'cahoots' with this woman. Some of the things that struck me as especially hard to swallow were. - Just the fact alone that this woman 'found him' - Her incredibly expressiveness and self knowledge while being somewhat of a sociopath. - These guys having the foresight to (on their trip for a dance show) bring such things as clip on microphones and UNDERWATER cameras!? - The Vince character that seems somewhat mentally challenged but at the same time is very expressive with his hands and then delivers this beautifully convenient catfish speech. - This Angela person being able to get all these pictures etc of 'Megan' and all the 15 other profiles around it, especially after the 'she wasn't a family friend reveal' and the fact that she was referencing to the fakeness by calling her Megan 'FACCIO' (from the italian word for facade) and this being the ONLY character that had such a wordplay name, conveniently the love interest for Nev. - The boys' complete non-reaction to the first time they find out its all definitely fake along with their subsequent staying, coupled with Nev all of a sudden being semi-depressed about it in New York. This could go on, it's so incredibly overwrought that I can't believe this could be up for discussion. let alone that it BARELY is up for discussion as it is.... I know truth can be stranger than fiction. It's just that those things usually don't happen to three self concious filmmakers trying to get a break in their careers.

(By cahoots I'm saying that these were actors or something along those lines).
