Good list, but I would have liked to see Finding Neverland in there near the top somewhere. And of course Terminator 2 for the ending..!

If I was making this list I would've put in Amores Perros (anyone that seen it knows the bit I'm talking about) Dead Man's Shoes & Garage (both films that have endings that if they don't absolutely destroy you, you probably don't have a soul). Paths of Glory is some moving s**t as well actually.

@ captainchod Totally agree with you about Finding Neverland, the scene on the bench at the end slayed me. Son of Rambow - a film I was totally not expecting to get all watery eyed at!

This list has some great choices! I will admit that "Beaches" was the first movie I cried in, in the theaters at the age of 12. But I'm surprised you left out some other notable chick flick moments, like when Susan Sarandon talks about how she's going to have to trust Julia Roberts to help her daughter get ready on her wedding day in "Stepmom" and the entire ending of "Pay It Forward." I bawled at the end of that movie! And the romances! All of my friends were crying during "Becoming Jane." I don't even like most romantic movies, but I was inconsolable at the end of that one. And the ultimate in cheese - "Love Story!" "Love means never having to say you're sorry!" Waaaah!

I always seem to get a grain of dirt in my eye at the end of The Searchers when Ethan lifts up Debbie for the first time. Oof it's getting me going already.

Grave of the Fireflies: never have I wept so hard during a movie. I saw this once in the theaters in Japan, and never again. I can't see it again. What makes this even more tragic is the book on which this is based is an autobiography of the authors own experiences trying to care for his sister in WWII Japan. Also, Hachiko is based on another true story out of WWII era Japan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hachiko

A film, well, moment no-one ever seems to mention is the end of Leon, where Stansfield kills Leon. It's such a heartbreaking moment. Even Stansfield, a man who personifies evil, feels bad after doing it, leading to him and Leon sharing a quite tender moment where Stansfield seems to show nothing but admiration for the hitman. Maybe people forget because of the grenade pin moment that follows, making one of the coolest film scenes as well.

It was mentioned in the Schindler's List entry but I do think Life is Beautiful should have got a mention, it made me cry more than Schindler's List. The constant depression of SL allowed you to acclimatise to it but with LiB, what happens amidst the whimsy is tragic, even with the mildly happy ending.

How about Cronenberg's The Fly, the moment where where he/it directs the shotgun towards his temple. Also, what somebody has already mentioned, the Dumbo scene in which his Mother cradles him from behind bars...I'm welling up just typing these examples.

I laughed when Bambi's mum died. And whoever said Watership Down, o my god. Why? It was scary not sad! I had nightmares for years over that thing! Homeward Bound was the one that always got me when the golden retriever comes back at the end.

I think Up should be number one. EVERY TIME I see that opening, I start bawling like a baby. Also to add to the list: Marley and Me and The Guardian (the latter's ending had me in tears for the longest time).
