The product placement in Josie & The Pussycats was entirely done as satire - in the commentary they director notes how they just plastered logos over everything and never asked for - or expected - any money.
Putting Target all over the inside of a plane. It's not exactly a normal brand placement, is it?

I would have had Waynes World at # 1. It's the first movie I thought of when I read the title of this list.
Nike re-released the back to the future shoe in 2009 to celebrate the 20h anniversary. Only 100 pairs were made with a price tag of $24,000 a pair!

Some MAJOR omissions. Iron Man's "all-American burger" advert for Burger King and what about Casino Royale's (I think) "Nice watch? Rolex?" "Omega, actually" which is far worse and cringworthy than the one you mentioned. On the other hand, the .44 Magnum probably only became famout due to Dirty Harry. Bond is also responsible for massive sales of Sony Vaios I should think...

In Josie and the Pussycats, the directors state that they received 0 product placement dollars. The whole point of the movie was to poke fun at consumerism and advertising.

It's odd to include Pulp Fiction in here: most importantly, Tarantino famously avoided any existing brands- do you not remember it's known as Big Kahuna Burger? I mean, it could benefit birger king as much as McD's and "hamburgers" isn't a brand. But hey, you could've put Sprite, which he says outright although hardly "focuses on" because you can already see murder in his eyes.
Second, are people buying the burgers to eat before execution-style killings?

This is a good list, but I do question whether Coke is an actual product placement in "The Gods Must Be Crazy". I cannot see a major corporation like Coca-Cola would pay for their product (hence the truth definition of "product placement" in a movie) to be prominently referred to as an "evil thing" by the main character and who decides it must be taken to the end of the earth and throw it away.

@nkutzler - In Pulp Fiction, not only do they mention McDonalds by name, they also discuss the benefits of the Big Mac, thus also mentioning their main product ("Le Big Mac").
