    Am I the only one thinking 'The Green Mile' was rated a little too highly? Thought it was overlong and flabby in places. Having said that, it IS a good film, but perhaps the weakest out of the "Darabont/King trilogy?" The Mist was much more effective as a film. Although I cannot argue with Number 1, I still think Stand By Me was the best adap.

    As usual, most book are better than the movies came out. "Apt Pupil" had a great ending and even the movie was ok, the books development was far superiour. The same goes for "Christine", which is a really good movie, but the book goes a step further. I enjoyed "Secret Window" pretty much and at least, like mentioned, the first half of "Dreamcatcher" was decent. The Top movies here are all really good, even Anne Wilkes actually CUT off one foot in the book in "Misery", but the movie's version was pretty hurtful too. "Running Man" was a pretty good flick (my childhood), even the book was completely different....I'd like to see a movie of the books version. It will be great whenever "The Stand" gets remade for real....great potential and the TV-Movie couldn't just fully live up to that. What's next to look forward? "Dark Tower" and....I hope...."Under The Dome"

    As usual, most books ended up better than the movies. The Top-Movies here are really good. Even "Christine" and "Apt Pupil" are good movies, the books went a step further and are superiour. Both endings are a lot better in the book. "Misery" is a great movie, great performances. Even in the book, Anne CUTS the foot off....but the movies version was pretty painful too. "Running Man" is a B-Classic (childhood memories). The book was so much different, I'd like to see a movie of that. "Secret Window" was fun I thought and, as stated, "Dreamcatcher" had a really good first half. I'd love to see a good remake of "The Stand". It was an decent Mini-Series, but couldn't match the book. I'm looking forward to "Dark Tower", "Under The Dome" and maybe "Black House". I hope they all get made....and get made well!

    So, is Stephen King the author who's had the most adaptations of his work put onto film? Even old Bill Shakespeare surely hasn't had as many adaps (in terms of different materials adapted, not amount of films based on his works)?

    ..And i hope they make the Dark Tower next - just without Javier Bardem in the lead. Just cannot see him as Roland at all.

    Great list. Though I'm a hater of The Stand miniseries; great performances by Lowe, Sinise, and others but overall I thought it was cheap, cheesy, and poorly done. Here's to hoping Ben Affleck's The Stand parts I, II, III (wishful thinking) and 11/22/63 will top that list by 2017 or so.

    Hey, Secret Window was good, dammit. If you haven't seen it, there's not much TF could say about it without giving away MASSIVE spoilers. I recommend the watch though.

    I'm sorry but The Shawshank Redemption at number 1, beating the likes of The Dead Zone and Carrie...give me a break! Shawshank like The Green Mile is utter rot! The Shining is a above average - if different - adaptation of the Stephen King novel. Stand By Me is very good. Misery and Dolores Claiborne...insulting and formulaic. Pet Cemetery and Christine are both brilliant. My favorite on the list however though not the best "package" is Cat's Eye, if only for the James Woods section.

    I've been wondering recently why they hadn't done a Carrie remake - not saying I want it to happen, just surprised that it hasn't - and now that I read about that sequel I can see why. I'd never even HEARD of that.

    Also I have to agree with Higgins... I couldn't stand the sentimentality of The Green Mile or Shawshank. But hey, Shawsank is #1 on imdb's top 250, so what do I know?

    Seems a lot on this list are sequels???? which aren't Kings books, though based on his original story, I still feel that they can't be classed as Kings Movies

    I enjoyed Maximum Overdrive and think it should be a bit higher in the list. Same with Silver Bullet. Can't argue with most of the placings on this list though. Shawshank obviously number 1, to this day still my favourite film ever. Also, @thedanieljson - they have done a Carrie remake, with Emile De Ravin (Claire from Lost). To be fair, it's not awful, but don't feel that your life will be incomplete without watching it.

    I don't think I've ever met anyone I disagree with more. Steven King is an excellent writer, Lawnmower Man 2 is a completely diabolical film (bought it for about 50p ex-rental and I still wanted my money back) and the abbreviation "IMHO" is unforgivable if used once, let alone every frikkin' sentence.

    @Dalidab. Nice, it was not a threat, but a film quote meant in jest which you would recognise if you were half the film fan you think you are ('the king of cinema' no less). You also profess to have a sense of humour but show none. Also, you accuse most people who even joke with you of bullying yet jump down peoples throats all the F*****g time. Grow the F**K up.     How can this LIST be considered a Stephen King list, when he DIDN'T write A LOT of the movies listed? As far as I know, he never wrote Carrie 2, or Children of the Corn 2,3,4,5,6 & 7, or any other sequel to the movies/books he DID write. How about making the list to be ONLY those directly taken from his books/novellas/short stories, etc. Derived from and based upon can be two different things.

    Shawshank is in my opinion the ONLY movie ever to be better than the book it is based on. In this case the book (a short story) is w**k! yet the film one of the best movies ever made.

    What is it about Stephen King that makes his novels so great for film? There has to be some secret to it. It's not like these are inspiring true stories, like The Blind Side, or anything like that but consistently his stories are successful on the big screen. Seriously, he's had like 50 movies made (http://www.ranker.com/list/best-movies-based-on-stephen-king-books/lons is another good list ranking them) from his books and I'm hearing things about "It" coming in a two-part movie next. What's the secret?
