A movie pooch proves he’s a real hot dog after becoming a fire station mascot in this lightweight comedy-drama, directed with puppyish enthusiasm by TV stalwart Todd Holland. When not pissing on flames and nailing mystery arsonists, the heroic mutt also helps captain Bruce Greenwood and estranged son Josh Hutcherson (Zathura, Bridge To Terabithia) build some bridges. If he could only stop farting in bed... As well as potty humour, this canine Backdraft has its share of adult moments – a reference to Paris Hilton’s sex tape, or the scene where homesick Rex is placated by hooker poodles. Mostly, though, it’s family fun, with Hutcherson showing he’s the go-to kid for sensitive loners.
