
Memphis-born director Ira Sachs keeps the action in his home state with this mismatched-triangle drama loosely inspired by Satyajit Ray’s Charulata. Rip Torn, in a role tailor-made for him, is veteran music producer Alan, a member of Memphis royalty whose track record goes back to the glory years of the ‘60s. From a visit to Russia he’s brought back a trophy wife, a willowy blonde called Laura (Dina Korzun). Far younger than her bullish husband, Laura’s hopelessly lost in this alien society, so when Alan’s son Michael (Darren E Burrows) arrives on a visit she’s dangerously susceptible to his advances.
