The 34 Greatest Cult Movies Of All Time

What do you make of the Cult Movies feature on the Total Film website? Happy with the choices? Should Donnie Darko have made the list?

How can you even ask that ? Its THE cult film of recent times.

Most of these are fair picks, or obvious choices but seeing Mama Mia on it offends me.

I would not have chosen Fire Walk With Me over Lost Highway, which I think is very deserving of inclusion.

Like Ancient says it's the cult film of recent times, on this side of the pond at least, which leads me to wonder whether TF left it off deliberately just to make everyone howl: Where's Donnie Darko??!

sort of thing they do.

Fankoo for the backup young cat. Another notable exception is The Crow, which i really am surprised never made the count.

Totally agree with you on this Kiba.Although most of lynch's films fall into the cult catagory Lost Highway is perhaps the most accessable. Certainly the soundtrack is very much a cult classics mix with the likes of Rammstein etc. contributing.
Fire WalK With Me only really exists and comes into its own as an abstraction of Twin Peaks and as such is a curious pick given that there is so much of Lynch's ouvre to choose from.

I agree with all of your post, Ancient One. It is a curious pick although it's great to see Eraserhead one of the most unique cult films of all time given its due.
Another accessible Lynch film - accessible for him anyway - Mulholland Drive also would have made a better choice.

The Lost Highway soundtrack is simply one of the best, a great compilation.

We need a Lynch thread. ;)

Well, I don't normally follow Cult Cinema, often times its classification confuses me and after that debacle, I usually find what's considered cult pretty appalling, or never understand the reasons why it's considered cult. A Clockwork Orange is one, absolutely terrific film, but whenever I hear it described as cult I have no idea what people are getting at, it jsut seems to be a get-out clause for those who struggle to have a worthwhile opinion. That, and I also don't like Donnie Darko, so perhaps I'm not the best judge on Cult Cinema.

However, there is one I'd like to see on that list. Chuck out Quadrophenia and The Warriors, what about The Wanderers? It does the gang thing better than The Warriors, and I prefer it's tale of confused youths to that of Quadrophenia (though I do like Quadrophenia). Memorable scenes, great music, distinct characters, consistently humourous, it's a highly enjoyable and fun film.

I still have a boggling mind as to why Mamma Mia is in there. I know the music has a cult following, but why does that equate to the (utter c0ck) film.
