If you are a fan of this guy you will note he has been involved in some great films. He has been a director/writer/producer. You will have all watched atleast one of these films
Gattaca (1997) (writer/director)
The Truman Show (1998) (writer/co-producer)
S1m0ne also known as Simone (2002) (writer/producer/director)
The Terminal (2004) (story)
Lord of War (2005) (writer/producer/director)
As a fan of each of all of the above films, I was looking through my collection the other day and I was able to spot his name on Gattaca and Simone. I then looked up the rest of his work and was stunned to find, I like everything he was involved in.
I was delighted to find out via wiki that after a 5 year break he is starting to make films again. I find this very exciting news and wanted to share it with you all. I recommend to anyone to check out these films. S1m0ne happens to be my favourite. He will aslo be returning to the Sci-fi genre in his latest films. Work I believe he does best. I'll try and find a synopsis.
Any other fans out there? What do think of his work?
Synopsis for The Cross (2010)
"Mylar (Bloom) and his younger brother Castro come to a town to cross the border in search of a better life. The two travelers, full of hope, all too quickly realize that their journey leads them to an inescapable world full of doom. The enigmatic border is strictly enforced under the command of a guard, Guideon, who prohibits anyone from ever leaving. Castro doesn’t make it alive past two weeks, but Mylar defies all odds and becomes the first to successfully cross the border. And he also becomes the first to come back… all for the love of a woman, Vera. Mylar must now devise a plan not only to set himself free, but all of his fellow citizens as well. But perhaps crossing the border is not the answer. Perhaps the key lies in altering the border and whatever it may represent…"
It stars Orlando Bloom, Vincent Cassel, Olga Kurylenko and John Goodman.
The Host 2011
Now there Niccol will also adapt Stephanie Meyer's (Twilight) novel The Host into a feature film. Not to be confused with the Korean monster movie, the novel focuses on interstellar parasites that use people as hosts and remake human society into something very different.
Meyer's has mentioned Matt Damon as the lead.
Sorry for posting in 3 seperate posts. Felt it was easier on the eye this way. ( Didnt wan't to leave a big block of text)
Thanks to http://celluloidandcigaretteburns.blogspot.com/ for the information.
His work is always a bit different and i'm always excited when a new film of his come out. I wasnt impressed with S1m0ne or The Terminal, however his output is normally strong and his films are always worth watching. Lord Of War was one of the best films of whatever year it came out, and The Truman Show was fabulously written.
