I'm beginning to find Timothy Olyphant a very strange entity in movies. He's never outright bad in a role, but everything I've seen him in he appears to be miscast. Die Hard 4, The Crazies, Hitman, Deadwood. He's not bad, but far from right as well.

He was appropriately cast in The Perfect Getaway. Have you seen that?

I have not.

I didn't think he was miscast in The Crazies. He had a few scenes stolen from him by his deputy dawg, Joe Anderson with his starey eyes and 'Is he? Isn't he?' intensity.

haven't seen him in any of those other films/series you mention.

I thought he was ok in Die Hard 4 but he was never going to be as good as Hans Gruber, who in my opinion is one of the best baddies ever. I turned Hit man off half way through as I thought it was rubbish.

Adding to the Timothy Olyphant-mania currently gripping this forum:

He is supposed to be dead cool as the lead in TV series "Justified", and he was in surprisingly entertaining Elisha Cuthbert starrer the "Girl Next Door" which is my favourite film that feels like it should have been made in the 80s but wasn't.

Also I've heard he's in with a shout to play my lord and master in the upcoming remake of Escape From New York - even though it's highly sacreligious for them to be remaking the greatest film ever, at least they're not going with Gerard Butler.

Well, I really liked him in Deadwood: all mean and moody and moralistic, like. And I thought he was cool as the drug dealer in "Go". Bit affected in Die Hard 4.0 though. And a bit wasted in Damages.

Good shout with Go. Cool little flick with a fine turn from the timid elephant. Also rate his performance in Gone In Sixty Seconds where his buddy cop routine with Delroy Lindo works well. As for the other films mentioned I tend to agree, though he was believable enough in The Crazies which, though not original, was actually great fun and far better than many similar films of that genre.

you're right, it was great fun. I neglected to say that in my review.

I think hes a tad duff. I quite liked him in what little I saw of Deadwood, but apart from that I only really remember him being a bit of a tit.
