What do you think of him? A waste is what I usually do. His films often start so well and decend into pants come the third act.
The only exceptions are Shallow Grave (guff all the way through) and Trainspotting (excellent all the way through) and The Beach (bit pants all the time).
Looking at his other films; 28 Days Later, excellent start, brooding mean ol' middle, daft as a brush final third. Slumdog Millionare, a similar feel, I enjoyed the film but the final part felt flat and unispiring, when it should of been the most emotional part of the film. Sunshine, this is possibly the worst culprit, great start to the film, fantastic premise and nice to see the human element involved and just as important to the story and the over bearing theme, however by the final third we are left with a daft stalker film which totally ruins it all.

I would tend to agree, but Boyle isn't the only culprit of this, so many films these days fall down and peter out in their third act, eg it being many peoples only problem with Inception.

Tend to agree. Trainspotting is excellent, and I really like 28 Days Later also, but most of his stuff hints at good film-making, then short-changes you at the end. The Beach was simply awful from start to finish, as was A Life Less Ordinary. He's hit and miss, but then most directors, who make films for the mainstream, are.

Haven't seen Slumdog, because it's about a child.

pmsl, Jonesy you should watch it, it does have its good points...and hes not really a child, more like a young adult. Or does that make it worse?

Trainspotting was good, sunshine was rubbish and slumdog was excellent.

Was that because of the ending or just the whole thing?

I think I just found it really boring and the ending was shite.

Shallow Grave is excellent, as is Trainspotting and Slumdog Millionaire. 28 Days Later and Sunshine have their faults but both are still very good. I even found The Beach fairly watchable, but maybe that's because I haven't read the novel. The only film of his that I can say that I dislike is A Life Less Ordinary.

Yeah, I'm a fan of Danny Boyle. I know Slumdog Millionaire is getting a bit of a backlash nowadays, but it's still a film I like.
Trainspotting is a modern classic, and I think 28 Days Later can duke it out with any other zombie film you care to name (that is, if you categorize it as a zombie film). I actually thought Sunshine was pretty fun, even if it isn't up there with his best works.

Looking forward to see how he does with 127 hours - it looks like it's on a smaller scale than Slumdog Millionaire, which I think bodes well. Lets see how James Franco fares in this dramatic role!
