Colin Firth

A Single Man - possibly one of the saddest, most affecting films I've seen. Firth's understated performance should be a lesson for all those over-wrought method actors out there (Bale, take note).

Colin Firth

King's Speech Golden Globe nominee Colin Firth now has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The British actor unveiled his sidewalk shrine Thursday in front of the Pig 'N Whistle pub on Hollywood Boulevard. It's the 2,429th star dedicated on the avenue of dreams.

Firth has already received Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild award nominations for his role as King George VI in The King's Speech, and he is also a favorite for an Oscar nod. Academy Award nominations are announced Jan. 25.

The 50-year-old Firth was a best actor nominee at the Oscars, Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards last year for his performance in A Single Man. »

I really hope he gets an Oscar, I haven't seen this film yet but he is getting rave reviews.

Did I read right that Stan Lee got a star too?

Looking good for 50!

LIke I said in another thread I thought he should have won the Oscar for A Single Man last year - that performance blew me away.

Great chance for him though this year, biopics are a bit of a shoo in.

I fully agree, Zippy. Did you see his acceptance speech at last year's Baftas? The man is a natural charmer and funny. It's great to see him getting meatier roles and staking out leading man territory after a long tour of duty being the one of the better supporting actors around.

Heh, you too Jay!

Firth seems like a good guy - I'll even forgive him being in Love Actually.

I've always liked Firth, despite being in some tripe like Love Acutally and St Trinians. He was superb in A Single Man and was robbed last year.

He has an effortless charm and a talent that Hugh grant can only dream of, quintessentially English. I'd like to see him tackle something a little more off centre, this 'King's Speech' strikes me as pure syrup Oscar baiting stuff.

It may be a very good film, I just tend to wince at the hardly subtle 'For your consideration' releases at this time of year, the cynical side of me is unlikely going to allow me to watch it objectively.

It's just so, worthy.
