Review the last foreign film you watched

Dabangg

Dabangg, the new Salman Khan movie, re-defines the traditional angry young man image of the indian actor founded by Amitabh Bachchan in the 70s and 80s. Though Salman's Wanted and Veer had the same theme of muscle-bound larger-than-life Salman taking on the might of International underworld in the first and the British empire in the latter, the portrayal of audaciously corrupt police officer Chulbul "Robin Hood" Pandey in Dabangg, seems more real, more true. Also, in this movie, Salman looks younger and fitter, and somehow hotter.

Though Salman alone rides the movie, Sonakshi's debut as the sassy potmaker loveinterest and Arbaaz as Robin Hood Pandey's lecharous half-brother and veteran Vinod Khanna as his reluctant step-father are awesome. But one performance that really takes the cake is the awesome Mahesh Manjrekar who plays Lajjo's loud, drunken yet lovable father.

This is truly a perfect movie for the rainy day.

Dasvidanya

This Vinay Pathak movie, is about an extremely ordinary, average clerk, the kind that you pass by without a second glance, who discovers he has only a few months to live.

So he sets out with his own bucket list, not big stuff, but doing the things that we,usually, tend to put aside until later. He tells off his pain-in-the-ass boss, and quits his job, buys a car, visits an old friend in Russia, meets and falls in love with a Russian Hooker, reconnects with an enstranged brother and learns to play a guitar.

There is no sad part, except maybe the first few minutes as he comes to terms with the changes. A must watch.

I Saw the Devil: a chilling, relentlessly bleak film about a truly warped, sick in the head psychopath pulled into a cat-and-mouse game by the husband of one of his victims. A brilliant film, but it'll kill any joy in your heart.

Show me Love

Its a coming of age/ coming out story of two girls living in Swedish Town of Amal. Elin and Agnes, two teenagers form the core of this story.

I watched it in Swedish, with no subtitles, but the emotions were so strong and universal, that didnt matter. Sure I had no idea what was being said, but I understood every bit.:)

It's beautiful.

Little White Lies

I really enjoyed it. Very engaging, excellent acting and characters all round and its both sad and funny. Marion Cotillard is beautiful too.

A grand follow up to Tell No One for Director Guillaume Canet.

4 Stars.

Red Eagle: a superior slice of slicy shooty punchy action from Thailand. It's your standard tale of a masked vigilante versus corrupt politicians and above-the-law gangsters, with the police force trapped in the middle. Fortunately the action scenes are terrific with plenty of broken bones and blood sprays.

The Lives of Others

A beautiful film, quietly portraying the harsh realities of a life merely a generation apart from my own. This film proves, along with many other examples of modern German cinema, that there are no language barriers when a film is this skillfully made and engaging. The echoes of it are still ringing in my ears and despite having seen it twice now, I still got a tear in my eye the second time around.
5/5

Belle De Jour

The story of an innocent yet curious middleclass Parisian woman who, dissatisfied with the affectionate effeminacy of her husband, decides to become a prostitute during the hours he works. Her pre-established life of mediocrity catches up with her as she gets more and more familiar with it's inner workings. The film was rather good, I think the fact that I was watching it in subtitles rendered the dialogue abit robotic because of the lack of proper translation but the character development was extraordinary; the story was carried along by the fact that you yourself were taking this journey into the underworld of prostitution.
