Star Wars: The Blu-Rays - Episode 7: The Long Con

Does any good will still exist for George Lucas and his most recent "May the 4th" announcement that Septembers Blu-Ray DVD's will have hours of new material?

Not only has he flogged the horse to death, but he has made toy models of said horse to sell in Forbidden Planet, before re-releasing a suped up version of the original horse (giving it two heads or something, because the technology wasnt good enough back then) to much derision but ultimaley spaceship loads of cash.

I for one will not be buying the Blu-Rays. My fondness for The Star Wars Trilogy (heck, I didnt even mind the prequels) faded a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. :(

I seem to remember Lucas being vocally opposed to the colourisation of films which were filmed pre-colour. There's no defence he could possibly put forward for his continued and hypocritical tinkering with movies which were fine in the first place. I won't be buying them either. What are the odds he's replaced Alec Guinness with a digitally aged Ewan McGregor?

I won't be buying them but I will be asking my wife to buy them for me for my birthday in September.

Star Wars on blu-ray, my mouth is watering.

Sssshhhhh! Don't start giving him ideas.

The only way I'd buy is if the original trilogy theatrical versions are given the BluRay treatment and the content NOT MESSED WITH! Bloody Lucas!

The big problem I can forsee is that GEORGE LUCAS will simply use the blu-ray format to release his STAR WARS films in several incarnations over the coming years to sponge up even more money from gullible fans.

He did so with the films on DVD and on Video beforehand.

Sadly, a Leopard cannot change its spots but I believe many fans are now becoming wise to the fact and will wait a while before buying the blu-ray versions, at least until the price has come down.

The current asking price is a little steep for films which the majority of people already own anyway.

Lucas can go and bollocks!

I think advances in computer technology are at a level that if the leopard's spots don't suit Lucas vision for his films, he could change them with the click of a mouse. Or make it look like the leopard fired first.:D

Yoda has been replaced with a CGI version for the bluray release (in Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi). Anyone else depressed by this?

This should cheer you up.

Gone way past depression with the tinkerings of the Bearded Hedgehog.:(

20 years time, it'll be the Rebels that were the bad guys and the Empire was just misunderstood. You heard it here first. Maybe.
