Steam games - good or bad?

I first encountered STEAM when I needed it to install NAPOLEON: TOTAL WAR in March 2010 and was at first a bit dubious.

However, over the months I have grown to quite like it. There are regular updates for games, plus achievements to gain for them, and I have purchased other titles directly through STEAM to my account as well.

Several months ago my computer went wrong big time and I had to reinstall all my software again. I wondered if the STEAM ones would be okay but fortunately everything was installed without a hitch and still works perfectly.

However, I have heard some people have had horror stories over STEAM, with nightmares over all sorts of problems. Do viewers find it a good thing or could they do well without it?

Steam is great. They've got free games, and sick sales.

Id definitely recommend them if youre into gaming. Gotta have an internet connection to run most of the games though

Since my last post, I have gained quite a collection of STEAM-based games and am now a fan of the system.

Free updates for games, forums to speak to other players online and give (or receive) advice, downloadable content at a great price - it is hard to beat!

I also like the idea of gaining Achievments for doing well at certain games, much like on my PS3, too.

I just put together a nice gaming pc after years with a macbook and love Steam. Bought loads of games in the frequent sales. Currently losing hours of free time to Torchlight 2.

Steam profile - fortunesfool if you want to add me. I don't have many gaming friends :(
