I preferred Lost in Translation because although nothing much happened in that either, it had Bill Murray who is always watchable imo.

I've added Sofia Coppola to my list of directors I try to avoid, Aronofsky and Lars Von Trier are on that list. I'd rather watch paint drying.

Skyline

What's not to like?

It's a shameless rip off of Independence Day crossed with Cloverfield and more than a hint of District 9, and it's a fun film :)

Totally ruined by the Mars Attacks ending.

Couldn't agree more, and I'd also add David Lynch to that list (with the exception of The Elephant Man).
I'm currently enjoying an Ealing Comedy retrospective. So far I've watched Passport To Pimlico (4/5, mainly for the wonderful Margaret Rutherford), Kind Hearts And Coronets (5/5) and The Ladykillers (5/5).
Tonight it's the turn of The Man In The White Suit.

Typical Will Ferrel film, totally bonkers and not to be watched with your parents :D

Real Steel - with spoilers

It's basically a remake of the Slyvester Stallone flick Over the Top, but with robots rather than arm wrestling.

I fell asleep about half way through so I don't know if it was getting better towards the end or getting even worse.

The action shots are stupendous but, like a lot of films nowadays, they've spent all the money on the CGI and forgot about paying someone to actually write a decent script.

I really enjoyed it, the robots looked great and not all it of was CGI, they made four of the robots at $500.000 each. Yeah its very sugery in parts but the yanks love all that. Hugh Jackman is good as Charlie and the boy didn't get on my nerves.

Real Steel

Firstly I agree with previous comments that the robots looked incredible! They were just awesome and their fights were also good fun.

I have to say that I loved this film. I tried so hard not to like it as it was so typically American cheesey but I couldn't resist! Had me smiling for hours afterwards!

I know its not for everyone, but for pure guilty pleasure, feel good entertainment, Real Steel is a winner.

4 out of 5.

Paranormal Activity 2

After seeing a million ads and trailers for the threequel which actually look genuinely scary and really caught my eye I thought I'd bring myself up to speed with the series and watch the second one. I wish I hadn't. It's a rotten, half arsed lump of a film. it suffers all the same flaws that made the original such a boring watch. The main characters aren't likeable or relatable. They're boring, whiny assholes, so I was glad of their situation instead of sympathising. The paranormal activities aren't really activities, more timewasters. Like a pump moving out of a swimming pool each night. Or a door closing. Or a kitchen fire. It's dull and unlikeable. I don't want to see the third one anymore. 1/5

yeah it's a pile of steaming pants. I recorded it off Sky, started watching it and it was so effing boring I fast-forwarded it to see if anything happened. I saw a door move. Whoop De Do. At that point I thought: f*** this, I don't have the time or inclination to watch this shite. And that was that.

I don't hold by the argument some people give that you must watch a film all the way through to know if it's any good or not. At my age, I don't have to and I can sleep at night trusting my judgement thanks very much.
