Jeremy Renner

Jeremy Renner: This seasons Sam Worthington?

OK, the plot line is that he's come from practically nowhere and been trust into the BIG MOVIE limelight and hasn't really cut the mustard as far as being a bona fide Next Big Thing.

Didn't rock my boat in The Hurt Locker or MI:4, he played a better role in The Town alongside that other failed Next Big Thing in the shape of Ben Affleck.

Discuss.

For some reason he reminds me a bit of Kurt Russell but without the charisma. He was watchable in The Hurt Locker but managed to be almost charming and relatable in 28 Weeks Later. His character's death in that is a pretty upsetting scene in a good movie.

Kurt Russell though made some classic "Cult" films though, and even though you'd struggle to point out the actual heroics of Jack in Bit Trouble In Little China, he was a lovable rouge.
And Snake Plisskin in the Escape films was another noteworthy character.
And then you have his performance in The Thing, Backdraft, Tquilla Sunrise etc and he's got almost as many action movies under his belt as Steven Segal and Van Damme put together :D

And how could you forget Tango and Cash :eek::eek:

Well, he's got "The Avengers" and "Bourne Legacy" coming out this year. They're both going to be be pretty huge action-centric films which should give him more of a chance to prove himself, I suppose.

I liked him since I was rooting for his character to beat up Angel's whiny immortal behind in the TV show about 10 years ago :p

He was creepy as hell in Dahmer and I agree with Jeffbiscuits about 28 Weeks Later - even though it was clear his character was a goner the second he stopped blindly following orders, so it wasn't much of a shock.

Wasn't Hänsel & Gretel moved to 2013 because Universal already got their fiscal year in the bag and are hoping to cash in on the potential success of The Avengers and Bourne next year?

The thing I find with Sam Worthington is that he holds no screen presence and I won't go and rush to the cinema to see his next film purely because I find him quite boring. However I do find Jeremy Renner a bit cold, except from in 28 Weeks Later, and that puts me off him a bit

Quote of the week - superb!

I like Renner, as mentioned he's good in 28 Weeks Later and The Town... thedude's on to something with the face though :D

I stumbled over a little movie called 'Twelfe and Holding' last week in which I liked him a lot. In a lesser actor's hands, the character could have easily come across as a creepy pedophile.

The kids in this film are phenomenal by the way. Warning: this is not a 'feel good' movie at all.

I'm a bit biased as I have actually met the guy. He is an insufferable knob. He was arrogant, dismissive and quite clearly annoyed the other actors on set.
However having said that, on film he comes across quite well and has put in some decent performances.
