...acording to The Guardian

WTF!?

I have heard this as well! It cant be true can it?

I've heard this rumor for years, even saw it written in print like LA Times. All I have to say, if it is true, is he should follow it up with Hungry Hungry Hippos. Imagine it as a horror movie, set in Africa, I mean hippos are the most dangerous animal there anyways.

Interesting, but just think how many films have been made with similar plots to cluedo? The classic who-done-it story. You could also the Hostel franchise is similar to Operation lol!

VerticalGunn 19-01-2009 12:09 AM

Yeah, this movie sounds awful.

Ohhh...Monopoly? I wanted Battleship: the movie.

peterraul 13-02-2009 06:55 AM

apparantly theres going to be a series of these board-game franchises being turned into film adaptations///

I believe 4 Hasbro games have been aquired by universal studios. These follow Transformers and GI Joe. So I suppose its not too surprising.

The rumoured are
Monopoly ( I'm sure as you say, ridley scott has confirmed this.) (Could be the same as any business film, trading places why not.)
Stretch Armstrong (rumoured as a 2011 release) (Could be the same as 1/4 of the fantastic four)
Battleship (not heard anything else apart from the name) (Could be the same as Hunt for red october)
Candy Land (???) (Charlie in the chocolate factory but looking for a king in the choclate river)
Clue ( haven't heard much) (Any episode of CSI)

What will the monopoly film involve - a "how to be a property developer" style montage? money-making madness leading to credit crunch depression? Rubbish!

Welshman 17-04-2009 12:51 PM

It might seem like madness but if the film portrays the characters as greedy money grabbers that are ruining the country and causing a credit crunch, then this may work out as perfect timing.

The problem with monopoly is that it is popular among with kids. So who is the target audience. If its kids or teens it won't be as dark as greedy money grabbing. Although Ridley Scott is involved which gives me a bit of hope about this project. It could be worse, they could have made a film about guess who?
