DVD commentaries
Any commentaries you've discovered that deserve checking out?

Ah DVD commentaries. At best they can be thoroughly informant and entertaining. At worst they can be very tedious, going-through-the-motions chat that make you want to switch the audio track back to the film. When I'm watching DVD extras, I'll always leave the commentary to last just in case it's awful and puts me off the rest of the supplemental stuff. But sometimes they can be great - the first one that comes to mind is the one on the Green Mile special edition.

Best ones are John Carpenter / Kurt Russel commentaries on The Thing / Escape from New York. Spinal Tap is cool, too.
Been listening to a lot of William Fredkin commentaries lately. It's odd - all he does is tell you EXACTLY what's happening on screen, but it's somehow compulsive listening. |
Oh, how could anyone forget the audio commentary for Dodgeball!! For the first 20 minutes I thought it was real!! :D

I seem to recall the commentary of Cannibal: The Musical! was hilarious. With Trey Parker and Matt Stone with mates in tow and a large supply of booze on hand, it was bound to be.

Kevin Smith ones are great, the TV show ones are great, taking the mickey out of "Animator Hahn" So racist but undeniably hilarious.

I hardly ever listen to the commentaries. Ihavent got the free time to rewatch a movie to listen to them. I would rather watch another movie.

I don't really listen to DVD commentaries but I'm going to start keeping an eye on this topic so if something I have is mentioned I may listen to it.
