The Good The Bad and The Wierd

This thread is for appreciation of all the wierd, outre, bizzare and so-bad-its-good movies that we all love.
Stuff that made you go ( in some way ) WOW that was just....

Ancient One 12-10-2008 06:23 PM

So what are your faves. A few of mine that really stand out for me are..
Dark City
The Cell
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
Ghost World
Lost Highway.

All of these are in someway stand out wierd. Either because of the visuals ( the Cell) or the sheer brilliance of the concept ( eternal sunshine )
In short I think that anything that makes you in some way go OMG or wow is worthy of this thread.

A weird film list is not complete unless it has a Takashi Miike film in it. Visitor Q and Gozu are prime examples of WTF-ness. :D

I watched the Acid House the other night and that is definately very, very weird.

oh...

And i thought this was going to be about the film...

Oh well uh.. David Lynch should get a mention surely?

Try and understand Mulholland Drive on first viewing!

Lost Highway was mentioned by myself above. One of Lynchs wierdest and best IMO.

Probably an obvious one but Donnie Darko is very high on my list, loved it (my favourite film actually) but I still don't get it ... still, I don't think that we were meant to. Southland Tales on the other hand ... !

So bad it's good? I have to go with Showgirls! It's diabolical but I admit, it has a certain charm.

Ghost World is a classic. Loved everything about it, especially the ending with Enid just ... moving on. A total gem.

Indy 5 must also get a nod for obvious (to those who have seen it) reasons. What the heck?

Absolutely. Just when you thought fridges were bad, Indy goes back in time....I mean, WTF! :D

That part with the fridge! Just ... eh? Tell you what though, if the American fridges can survive that blast then I want one!

Oh, and I of course meant Indy 4! My bad! Blame it on work!

Its possibly THE most under rated film Ive ever seen. Its a shame that Thora Birchs performance in American Beauty has overshadowed this one as she gives one of the best, most subtle acting classes in any movie. So much in this film is down to small nuances of character and direction that it is enthralling to watch. The fact that very little happens in the movie of any import only emphasises this. It is totally entertaining from start to end and I really do think it needs a reissue on DVD with the full treatment to make more people aware of this gem.
