Being a real cockernee like I is (yes I was born in sound of Bow Bells) I have previously laughed at Van Dykes ridiculous cockney accent but having read the above piece I've realised that it really is all part of the charm of Mary Poppins. Cor luv a duck me old china I shall no longer mock Van Dykes mockney accent but embrace it for what it is and next time he is singing about his old bamboo I shall doff me cap and give a cheeky little smile, gawd bless ya.
