Hidden is boring and frustrating, I'll give you that, and Haneke seems like a pretentious ass. I did find one glimmer of genius in Funny Games though (only seen the American version) - it's quite a small element relative to the rest of the film, however, which is just a dismal slog (although I guess it's meant to be).

More to do with the writing than anything else, but I liked the way the two invaders never escalate the violence- they just impose on the family to the point where they escalate the conflict themselves. It's a fresh approach and has quite a chilling effect, I find - in a way the family brings the violence on themselves, but are forced to do so.
