Since I bought a large TV and a blu-ray player, I have had my enthusiasm for film rejuvinated. I was beginning to despair with the dross that was being released, and lose my love of movies. But even watching stuff I've previously torn apart, I've been awakened to the fact that maybe they're not quite as appalling as I first thought. Case in point - X-Men. Hated it the first time round (in the cinema, I think), but on blu-ray on a 46" HD TV, it looks so great, that I forgive it its short-comings. And this seems to be happening with a number of films. So either I'm mellowing, or blu-ray has restored my faith.

I think it has definitely improved my love of home cinema. I buy most films on Blu-ray now as you have the better sound and picture quality. I don't even mind missing some films at the cinema now as I know that it won't be long before they are on blu-ray. But its not just having a blu-ray player its the TV that goes with it, you can't appreciate blu-ray unless you have a decent sized 1080p TV to go with it. I think its about time that the prices came down though and we should be paying the same price as normal dvd's. Shops like HMV are absolute pee takers with their prices.

Absolutely 100% agree, jaykay. Good post.
There is no logical reason why blu-ray should be as expensive as it is, it is just a p isstake. It forces us to shop around, but I never look at HMV, their prices are an insult. Like you Jonesy I've had blu-ray for a while but only got a decent size TV last year (with full 1080p etc) and my god - what a difference! I'm still catching up watching my old favourites but it's a pleasure doing so. And unless your local cinema has digital, like Guyver's screen, it is actually looking better at home, which is great. As for revitalising my interest in film, I'll now watch guilty pleasures more willingly knowing they'll make my eyes pop even if they're full of holes and faults. Sometimes I just want to be wowed by the visual spectacle. |

The problem with HMV is not the stores its their online. The difference between the two as far as BR pricing goes is stupid.
I.E. Online...2 for £18 Instore ( same choice of films) 2 for £25. There are other, even bigger differences if you look. If stores REALLY want Blu-Ray to take off they MUST acknowledge that DVD is past it and drop prices accordingly.

Like diddly has Blu-Ray restored my love of film. Nor has it had any effect in any way.
It's a better form of DVD. That's it. Personally, I still enjoy watching things on video every now and then, some films get a quaint charm from it (watching Alien on video at midnight on an old small telly never gets old). Besides, the amount of time I spend in the cinema these days, I find Blu-Ray to be a bit of a waste, all the films that are good I've already seen on the big screen, while all of the films I want to see aren't available yet. In a couple years I may change my tune, but as it stands, it's just a better form of DVD. |

i got a 50inch HD tv and blu-ray player etc and i love watching the films on it now. Avatar looks amazing and if you then switch back to say a old episode of only fools and horses the difference in quality is immense.always buy blu-rays discs now even though they cost that bit more. still not sure about 3-D yet.
