Default Robocop remake

Jose Padilha says his take on Robocop will be set primarily during Murphy's rehabilitation from corpse to cyborg.

In Verhoeven's original, those scenes lasted all of five or ten minutes. Such a different view of the material clearly shows he's trying to take a new direction with this movie. Hopefully that's a good sign.

But the range of actors who can convey real emotion through that face and body armour are about one in a million. They won't find another tour de force like Peter Weller, or the dedication and subtlety he brought to it.

You'll end up with someone like James Marsden in X-Men 3 with his wimpy posturing soap opera expressions.

I guess the studio is looking at it with hopes of some kind of a franchise too which is depressing. On the other hand, though we might see kids in the next couple of years playing with talking Clarence Boddicker, Dick Jones and Bob Morton action figures. "Just gimme my fucking phone call"

I want a talking action figure of the "I'd buy that for a dollar!" guy. Bimbos sold seperately.

But what's the bet the studio will recoil from allowing those guys to be as bad as they are, and even try to modify their bad language to get the all important PG15 rating. I predict watered-down villains and luke warm swearing. The original could be bold because it was fairly low budget for its time and no one took it seriously. A remake won't be given the same freedom. you just know it's going to wuss out.

It can fuck off, to be honest. It'll be the Pattison school of acting where looking pensive and angsty means staring into the iddle distance with a the appropriate lighting.

And stalking teenagers with faces like sweaty socks.

Sounds like they are just going to make a longer version of the opening credits to the Six Million $ Man then doesn't it.
