So, he's played Magneto, he's in Prometheus, he's soon to be Noah, his name has been connected to the Robocop remake and he's a fan favourite to succeed Daniel Craig as the next James Bond.
There's not a week goes by when someone doesn't mention his name in connection with whatever new film is in the pipeline at that moment. Does he deserve the praise though? I've seen him in a few films and he's always just seemed a decent, dependable even predictable actor. He was decent in Xmen-First Class, he was decent in Inglourious Basterds and he was a bit annoying in that film where he gets tortured by the wee guy from This is England and his mates. Shouldn't the next big acting talent be something a bit more than decent? Shouldn't we put our hopes into an actor who is capable of more than just being consistently decent? Any thoughts?

I think he is an ok actor nothing special, but then I have only seen him in X Men first class and Inglorious Basterds.

I agree, he's dependable, capable of subtle performances (he was in Fish Tank) but it doesn't explain why he's everywhere. I guess it's his moment to be the latest leading man.

I recorded Fish Tank on my Virgin hard drive as I had wanted to see it for ages due to it being filmed on the Council estate that I grew up on. I sat down the other day to watch it and found that the wife had deleted it. I wasn't happy.

That bites. If I see it coming up on Film4 I'll let you know jay.
Fassbender, don't know what to make of him, he doesn't seem to have been around long enough to be getting this frantic casting and attention but maybe I haven't seen him in much. He wasn't exactly flawless in X-Men First Class but I haven't seen him in Hunger yet. Last edited by morris; 05-01-2012 at 04:21 PM. |

I think he's good. Honestly don't know if I'd go for great as I haven't seen him in much and, no offence to him, haven't paid too much attention. That said though, if he's sweet in Prometheus I'm afraid I'll probably fall head over heels in love with him (I'm a girl, sorry!).
But isn't that how it usually goes - someone stars in one or two films that seem to catch the eye of certain directors, etc and suddenly they're everywhere? Not always because they're particularly great, but just "because". Last edited by KitKatWoman; 05-01-2012 at 05:36 PM. Reason: Spelling! |

As far as I'm concerned, Fassbender has a broad range and can be such an intense actor to watch. Yet, he maintains a coolness about him at times, which is why he is tipped to be the next Bond. To see just how good he can be, watch Hunger, but I reckon Shame might be his defining role (although I haven't seen it yet)

I like "The Fass" I think he has charisma, screen prescence and charm. Also, as anyone who has seen Hunger will testify, the man can act his socks off. I'm a fan.

I agree with the dude. I was swaying in the direction of liking him, but seeing him in Shame (fearless and raw) and Prometheus (some say his viral was the best part of the film that wasn't in the film) I consider myself a fan. His accent does slip at times, in some roles, but if that's the worst thing you can say it's not much to gripe about really.

Was watching a bit of X Men First Class last night and his accent was all over the place. Don't mind him as an actor though.
