Anyone seen War Horse yet? I don't really fancy it myself. My mum and dad went to see it and said: "It's like Lassie. But with a horse. And there's a war," which I kinda liked as a review...

Heart-warming, beautifully acted, majestically shot and surprisingly pacy. The episodic structure does work very well and the anthropomorphisation of the horse without excessive CGI or a silly internal monologue with shades of the Twilight werewolves is done deftly and effectively. Well done to the Spiel on this.

I really enjoyed it, destined to become one for all the family to gather round and watch together I reckon. Having Joey the horse as the lead character keeps things interesting, so if there's one actor/character/storyline you're not than keen on, another one comes along soon.
My one bugbear would be that the horrors of WW1 aren't really portrayed as they really were, but I guess in a 12A they went as far as they could. The score is shamelessly manipulative, but again I loved it. I felt like I was holding back tears for most of the film and was a blubbering mess on at least 3 occassions. ![]() |

Really enjoyed it, although I did have to try hard not to blub in front of my son. Joey the horse is such a beautiful majestic creature that out acts the rest of the cast, not that the cast are bad as they all played their parts really well. The war scenes are done really well as I would expect from Mr Spielberg, the sound effects when they are in the trenches and go over the top are superb. I'll definitely be buying this on blu-ray.

What they did with the horse was brilliant, you got the feelings of the horse and felt its pain and anguish. |

the first half of the film was o-k.
With the manipulative music and extreme cheese. telling myself not to worry thinking "it's a homage to the oldies, this is going to be sweet" but no. i couldn't get over the manipulative score, the story was just unbelievable. at the end just EVERYTHING was going so over the top positive for the guy, in succession. my brother loved it. he couldn't hold all his feels. he knew where to put the camera. i left the cinema being mad as hell. sincerely. - angsty teen |

All the scenes set in Blighty were like a rose tinted fairy tale - awful. The only good bit was the trench warfare, the rest was so sugar coated, that it was an embarrassment. Spielberg isn't improving, bless him. And why do casting directors insist on always putting some wet-wipe in the heroic role? Why can't we have heroes, who whilst young, have a bit of character to their faces, rather than dewey eyed charisma vacuums?
And why....*spoiler alert* did it end like Gone with the Fucking Wind??
