There's a doco on Polanski on BBC4 at 10pm tomorrow (Monday) night. Looks as if it might be worth a watch, whether you're already a Polanski expert, or want to be introduced to the controversial man.

Nice one, I've set my TV reminder for it.

I missed the doc - was it any good?
Would like to have seen it as I love Chinatown and have a real fondness for Bitter Moon... and of course there's Polanski's colourful past! |

It mainly focused on the court case, which although interesting, wasn't really relevant to his film making. I was hoping to learn more about the man as director, rather than an alleged paedophile.

I missed it... I don't remember why, but if it didn't really bother with his film making then I'm not too bothered.

That outlines the problem with many of the programmes we're offered on actors or directors these days. Thanks to reality tv dragging the overall quality of programming down, you're more likely to be offered a feature which is the equivalent of The Daily Mail or The Sun, rather than something which is informative and truly examines the art of film-making/acting.

I must admit that I really enjoyed the documentary. I'd heard of the story but never had any grasp of what really went on so it was interesting to hear what they all had to say. Polanski's lawyer in particular was brilliant with what he disclosed about the case.
It would be nice to see a documentary that covers the director's work though. For about ten years he turned out some classics and Chinatown and The Tenant really stood out for me. |

I prefer his earlier works namely Repulsion and Cul de Sac
