The Elizabeth films are great spectacles and highly entertaining though the narrative of the second was lacking and Owen was miscast I thought. Agree that some of these costumes have to be seen to be believed - I went with some friends to the LOTR exhibition in London a few years back and the costumes were jaw-droppingly amazing. The amount of work in them; phenomenal. Galadriel's dress had a zillion little pearls or crystals or whatever they were sewn on them. It was like something out of a dream. There was a huge tank filled to the brim with used hobbit feet The armour was outstanding too. |

I've always had a touch of trouble getting my pretences out of my head when it comes to period dramas.
Ive seen all the "big" ones, can I get some reccomendations as for one to look out for. I already have The Young Victoria on my mind to watch, any others I should keep an eye out for?

Dude Im going to second Kiba's selection. La Reine Margot is a brilliant film and a must see. I also liked the following..
Atonement. Mrs. Brown ( classic ) Mrs. Henderson Presents. A Lion In Winter Far From The Madding Crowd.

The Edge of Love, by the same director as Atonement is worth a look too. It's not as epic or powerful as Atonement, it's a smaller story. But if it comes on telly or something, you could do worse than give it a go.

I watched Atonement on Sky movies as there wasn't anything else on at the time and didn't really fancy it at all but I loved it.

Some of the best ones are TV series, as they can go into so much more depth and drama - Pride and prejuice, North and South, Bleak House, Forysthe Saga.
My favourite of recent years was Becoming Jane. |

Zippykins Im shocked
![]() Becoming Jane was AWFUL just pure AWFUL. It tried so hard to make a valid movie out of a subject that was dull as ditchwater and failed. The plot was jumbled and it felt as though it was just an excersise it putting as many cliches into a film as possible. Rates alongside Miss Potter as one of the worst movies of the last few years.
