I have a particularly stupid friend who insists that buying pirated Dvd's from the pub is a great idea, even after half of them turn out to be unwatchable or even, completely the wrong film.
Anyway, this is not a thread about piracy, but stupidity. He called me yesterday to say he had Avatar on pirate, but he had the 3D version! Bit suspicious as the 3D one not been released on DVD yet so had to go round his to check it out. I don't think I've laughed so much in years. Because some bright spark had videoed the film in a cinema with a camcorder, which is bad enough, but they had indeed filmed a 3D version. Which would be stupid enough, but even better, the person had held up a pair of 3d glasses in front of the camera and filmed through them! And obviously aware that to get the full 3d effect you need to see through both lenses, he held the glasses far enough away so you could see through both. In effect, the DVD was a couple of hours of watching a wavering pair of black framed glasses in front of an out of focus screen. My mate still thinks it was a bargain though. I need new friends. Oh, and it actually vastly improved the film, because you couldn't actually see or hear it properly. |

I went on a school trip to China and one night we ended up in some random market. My friend thought it was a great idea to buy dvd's there as they were so cheap. Since he'd used the cd's he'd bought there and they seemed ok, he figured dvd's should be the same. It was only when we got back that we found that one of them was completely unworkable, and his copy of The Fellowship of the Ring (which at that point was not yet on video or dvd) was just a filthy porno. Oddly, he was really unhappy about it. I think £2 for a porno is quite good, but I guess he wanted a bit of Frodo more...

brilliant! You should post it on youtube as some kind of art movie and make up some rubbish explanation about how it is an exploration of the future of vision or something. |

When I was about 13, I bought a copy of Beverly Hills Cop III on a car boot sale, I knew it would be an awful copy but couldn't resist a bit of Eddie Murphy action/comedy. Well half way through I could see people getting up going either for a shit or more munch, and then at the end everyone was clapping!! 1. why would people clap in the pictures, and 2. it was Beverly Hills Cop III.......it was dreadful. Bastard thing cost me a fiver...gutted!
