See, I've been watching through Deadwood with my Dad, and we absolutely adore it. There's a Shakespearean quality to the dialogue which is just superb, and there are so many well-defined characters, each covering different themes and concerns. And then Olyphant's Bullock (character he plays) just comes along with a broody look that makes me think he's a bit constipated and is constantly doing the same thing (keep his head down, then loses his temped, rinse and repeat). It also really doesn't help that the primary characters he interacts with outshine him in huge quantities. He's never outright bad, and is capable of some moments, but moments aren't enough in a series of 12 one hour episodes.
