Not any more you don't. If you buy from amazon the postage is free; it's only if you buy from other sellers that you have to pay postage.

I thought Amazon required a £5 spend for free postage, or has it been dropped? Last thing I ordered from them was over two months ago so I'm not kept up with their dealings.

I thought it had been dropped. I order from amazon quite often, and haven't had to pay any postage for ages.

I think they dropped it a while back. You do have to remember to select 'super saver free delivery' at the checkout though otherwise they charge you the standard.

I used to use amazon all the time a few years ago but then they started getting the availability of products horribly wrong. It happened on about 5 or 6 items for me where they'd say it was in stock then a couple of days later after ordering it I'd receive an e-mail telling me it wouldn't be dispatched for another 1 or 2 weeks. Although they do seem to have fixed that problem now I currently don't like the fact that every other product on the site isn't actually distributed by amazon themselves but rather an independent outside company.

As for play; they're alright and I haven't had a problem with them yet but then again I haven't had to contact their customer service yet either. They might be a bit slower than amazon but it usually takes about the same amount of time as all the other Jersey based sites out there so you can't really complain too much.

So basically I usually go for the one that has the better price.

I'd probably go with Amazon.

Almost always Amazon. I like it when a new release arrives a few days early.

I have used both and both are very good. Play always gave free postage whereas Amazon did not but Amazon have now joined the party. Reliabilty wise both are equal. If you want something just go for whichever is cheaper because either will deliver.

I've started selling on Amazon. Shifted a few books and other bits and bobs and got quite a tidy sum put together. Thought i'd treat myself with it...

Turns out that you can't use the money you make selling on Amazon to buy things from Amazon

What's the bloody point of that? Now have to wait 5-10 days for the money to reach my bank account, where it will no doubt end up having to be used to pay bills.

They've always done it that way. I've been selling with them for years. They take quite a greedy bite of commission too and their postage allowance is ridic, if you're posting a box set for example how far will £1.26 go??
But I still use them because I can't be arsed with ebay, having to keep eye on auctions etc.

They have started a direct trade thing which might be more what you're after.. but it's currently accepting only books and video games.
